A better future for refugee kids with Still I Rise

For many years, millions of immigrants and refugees have suffered under difficult circumstances while the rest of the world stood by and let it happen. Together with Still I Rise, an organisation founded to help refugee kids, I, Emanuele Ursino, have decided  that I want to become a voice for the voiceless to help ensure a better future for immigrants kids at risk.

I'm 15 years old and I have had the luck of living abroad in different countries for many years. This experience has allowed me to know people from all around the world, hear their stories and appreciate their culture. I learnt to bond with anyone, regardless of their nationality or background, and I believe that people deserve the chance to be heard and recognised, especially the ones that faced difficulties and struggles and had to leave their home countries because of that. 

Even today, when the whole world's primary concern is the COVID-19 pandemic, the refugee crisis is continuing to take place and is thus worse than ever. Nowadays, in Europe there are more than 2,4 million refugees ,Turkey alone hosts 3,6 million of people and 860.000 of them are asylum seekers.
More than 50% of them come from Syria, Afghanistan and South Sudan.

All these people, asking for help to different countries, do so in the hope of a better future as they come from extremely dire situations such as: war, poverty, dictatorship. Over 40% of refugees knocking on Europe's door are kids and children, many of them are unaccompanied.

There are many possibilities to help and support those children. I believe that one of the best ways  is  giving them a good education so that they can grow up confident, conscious and independent to then  be able to take their place in the world and change it for the better.

Therefore I have decided to create a project so that I can raise awareness for the refugee crisis and help refugee kids with their education. To do that, I reached out to an ONLUS organisation named Still I Rise(https://www.stillirisengo.org ) created in 2017, in the Samos hotspot for refugees in Greece, with the aim of giving a good education to as many at risk kids as possible. Over the years, Still I Rise has opened 4 schools: 
Mazí (Greece, Samos hotspot) school for teenagers of 11-17 years
Beraber (Turkey, Gaziantep) first International school for refugees in the world
Ma'an (Syria, Al Dana) school for displaced kids because of the war   
Pameja (Kenya, Nairobi) school for 150 at risk students.

Some refugees kids in the Samos Camp, thanks to a photo workshop held by Still I Rise, took pictures inside and outside their camp.
Those pictures became an exhibition known as "Throw our Eyes" which has since visited many countries.
Its purpose is to show everyday life in a refugee camp through the eyes, as the title suggests, of the children who once lived there: thanks to their unique sensibility we are shown  extreme living situations in the camp, between deep poverty and inhuman conditions that they face with courage everyday.
Nevertheless we can also recognise their hope for a better future and their ability to find beauty  even in the darkest places, as well as  their positive attitude.  

To spread it throughout the community , I turned it into an online art gallery so that it can been seen all across the internet. Please join in giving them a brighter future by donating to this fundraiser and sharing it with as many people as possible.

Per molti anni, milioni di immigrati e rifugiati hanno sofferta, mentre il resto del mondo rimaneva semplicemente a guardarli senza far nulla.  Insieme all'organizzazione Still I Rise, fondata per aiutare i ragazzi rifugiati del mondo, io, Emanuele Ursino,  desidero prestare loro la mia voce per aiutare i bambini immigrati ad avere un futuro migliore. Dona ora per aiutarli.

Ho 15 anni e ho avuto la fortuna di vivere all'estero per molti anni in diversi paesi. Questa esperienza mi ha dato la possibilità di conoscere persone provenienti da tutto il mondo, ascoltare I loro racconti e entrare in contatto con la loro cultura. Ho imparato a relazionarmi con chiunque, indipendentemente dalla sua nazionalità e credo che le persone meritino l'opportunità di far sentire la propria voce, in particolare coloro che hanno dovuto affrontare delle gravi difficoltà e che per quello hanno dovuto lascare i propri paesi. 

Anche oggi, quando tutto il mondo si preoccupa solamente del COVID-19, la crisi dei rifugiati continua a verificarsi e sta peggiorando più che mai.  A oggigiorno , in, Europa ci sono più di 2.4 milioni di rifugiati e soltanto la Turchia ne ospita 3.6 milioni, con anche 860.000 richiedenti di asilo. Più del 50% di queste persone vengono dalla Siria, l'Afghanistan e il Sudan.

Tutte queste persone, che chiedono aiuto a diversi paesi nella speranza di avere un futuro migliore vengono da situazioni estremamente difficile, come la guerra, la povertà o la dittatura. Più del 40% di questi rifugiati sono soltanto dei bambini, e la maggior parte sono minori non accompagnati. 

Ci sono diversi modi per aiutare questi bambini. Io credo che uno dei modi migliori sia darli una buona education e così che possano crescere e diventare persone sicure di se, consapevoli e indipendenti e cosi prendere il loro posto nella società e rendere il mondo un posto migliore.

Per questo, ho deciso di creare un progetto, cosi da far conoscere la crisi migratoria e per aiutare i bambini rifugiati con la loro istruzione. Per farlo, ho contattato un'organizzazione ONLUS di nome STILL I RISE(https://www.stillirisengo.org ) fondata nel 2017, dentro il campo di Samos in Grecia, con l'obiettivo di dare un'educazione al maggior numero di bambini possibile.  Col passare degli anni, Still I Rise ha aperto ben 4 scuole:
Mazí (Grecia, campo di Samos) scuola per ragazzi dagli 11 ai 17 anni
Beraber (Turchia, Gaziantep) prima scuola internazionale per bambini profughi al mondo
Ma'an (Siria, Al Dana) scuola per bambini sfollati per colpa della guerra
Pameja (Kenia, Nairobi) scuola per 150 bambini profughi

Alcuni bambini nel campo di Samos, grazie a un laboratorio fotografico creato da Still I Rise, hanno fatto foto sia dentro che fuori dal campo. Queste foto sono state riunite per formare una mostra fotografica chiamata "Attraverso i Nostri Occhi", che da allora ha viaggiato per il mondo.
L'obbiettivo della mostra è di far vedere com'è la vita quotidiana dei profughi all'interno del campo attraverso gli occhi dei ragazzi: grazie alla loro sensibilità, ci è possibile vedere le condizioni disumane dentro al campo, tra povertà e fame, che queste persone sono costrette ad affrontare ogni giorno. 
Nonostante tutto, è possibile vedere la speranza che hanno questi ragazzi per un futuro migliore e la loro capacità di scorgere la bellezza anche nelle situazione più buie.  

Per diffondere questa mostra, l'ho trasformata in una mostra virtuale così che possa viaggiare lontano. Per favore aiutatemi a rendere il futuro di questi ragazzi migliore offrendo una donazione e condividendo questa raccolta il più possibile.
