There's No Place Like Home

August 31, 2014: There continue to be many ups and downs but b"H, we seem to be on an upward trend. Although there was a brief hospitalization this week, he is now back in rehab. Our goal is to have him home by mid-September, and certainly for Rosh HaShana. That would be amazing. Please continue to have Aryeh Leib HaLevi ben Genebdel in your thoughts and tefilos for a refuah shlaimah and a speedy homecoming.

My father, Lou Lawrence, will soon G-d willing celebrate his 93rd birthday. His health was relatively stable until December 2010, when he broke his ankle in a fall. Complications had him shuttling back and forth between the hospital and various rehab facilities for several months. During that time, he contracted MRSA, a potentially fatal staph infection. Fortunately, he recovered, but remains severely debilitated to the point that he requires total assistance to get through his day. We are fortunate to have wonderful caregivers who love him dearly and do all they can to assist him. Additionally, the bonds of their relationships with him provide genuine companionship. Combined, the expert caregiving and warm friendships greatly enhance his quality of life. Until recently, my father was able to cover the majority of the cost of his care. However, he has severely depleted his savings and now must rely solely on his social security and Veterans benefits. It's simply not enough, and we find ourselves short every month. Neither I nor my siblings are able to supplement his expenses for the foreseeable future. I am hoping that his situation will resonate with compassionate souls who have been in similar circumstances. You will be helping my father to remain at home, surrounded by all the people and circumstances that have helped him make it this far.
