Yida Sofia Ferrer Velez is a seven-year-old girl, who was diagnosed with choroid plexus carcinoma in September 2010 at the early age of three-years-old. She underwent a complete resection of her tumor that month at Boston Children's Hospital, and subsequently treated her with several rounds of multi-agent chemotherapy. She was diagnosed during this process with Li-Fraumeni syndrome, a tumor predisposition syndrome that puts her at risk for other cancers. Yida Sofia finished therapy in March 2011 and was disease-free until August 2013, when a routine MRI showed a small nodule of recurrent tumor in the area of her original tumor. This was completely resected in September 2013.
The current plan for Yida Sofia is to give multi-agent chemotherapy again, followed by radiation with concurrent chemotherapy, and more multi-agent chemotherapy. These treatments are indicated in order to cure her recurrent cancer. Given that she has a recurrence of a very rare tumor, plus her underlying tumor predisposition syndrome, she is extremely complex from a cancer standpoint. It is very important that she continues to receive her treatments at Boston Children's/Dana-Farber Cancer Center. Yida Sofia parents were forced to move to Boston in order to receive treatment for their child and are asking for you help to cover medical expenses in Boston $6,000.00 monthly plus other deductibles for radio therapy, MRI. There is also a bank account with the purpose of collecting funds locally. Bank Info: BPPR Pro-Fondos Yida Sofia Ferrer Velez #030-872251.Thank you for the taking the time and consideration for Yida Sofia.
