Bob has committed (or maybe he should be committed) to taking on a crazy feat of ultra/extreme running to raise awareness and funds for clean drinking water initiatives in Nepal – a significantly underdeveloped country where access to clean water is a serious concern. This is an issue that Bob has held close to his heart for the past couple of years. Bob first became aware of how access to clean drinking water was an issue for people in remote Nepalese villages when he visited Nepal with a group of students in 2013 to work on an irrigation canal system. A couple of years later, he returned to Nepal and gathered information to support his 2016 clean drinking water initiative where he, with the support of his own volunteer team, successfully spearheaded implementing a water filtration project for several families in the remote Nepalese village of Lahachowk.
In mid-April 2017, Bob will embark on what most of us would think is a super human epic adventure – a 1,800 kilometre run across the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal. The event is called the GREAT HIMAL RACE and starts at Nepal’s eastern border (Kanchenjunga - or K3 - the world’s 3rd highest peak at 8,586m) and moves across the Himalayas toward Nepal’s western border with Tibet at the town of Hilsa. By the time the run ends in early June 2017, Bob will have been on the move for 45 consecutive days of running through extreme terrain and temperatures with a total of approximately (91,000 metres) 300,000 feet of elevation gain. This works out to an average of running a marathon (42 kms) per day.
In order to participate in this crazy event, Bob needs to be outfitted in a completely self-sustaining manner (food, tent, sleeping bag, clothing, medical supplies, etc) for the entire race. Our hope is that your donations will go a long way to helping Bob cover the considerable expenses that are associated with undertaking a challenge of this magnitude. Bob has identified what is needed to support this crazy, epic adventure and your generosity will, without question, enable Bob to ensure that he is well equipped and organized to “git ‘er done”.
