Wesley's Medical Expenses

Don protégé

Our hearts are breaking as I write this.  Our oldest son, 22 , Wesley, who is a seminarian for the diocese of Kansas City -St Joseph has had a recurrence of his brain cancer, and he is slipping quickly from us, it seems.    Wes' oncologist gave us the painful news last Thurs that he has 3 to 6 months to live.  His father, Scott, his brothers and sisters, Mark (19), Clare (17), Brendan (15), and Anna (13), and I (Wendy, mom) are in shock and very sad.

Wes was diagnosed in Jan. 2014 with a terminal stage 4 Glioblastoma/PNET brain tumor.  He underwent successful surgery, and treatment (radiation and various types of chemo).  In Jan 2015, he was tumor free and able to return to seminary.  We partied!  Wes helped with youth activities this past summer, and joyfully returned to seminary in Aug 2015.  Unfortunately, the cancer returned, in small multiple tumors in the area of motor control, and speech.  We were devastated.

We do know that our good Lord can easily do a miracle, and Wes has been interceding to a young man named Charles Untz for his healing.   (As Charles lay dying in a hospital room after a car accident, he was seen receiving Communion at his local Catholic parish.)  However, Our Lord may want this young adult son of ours to leave this world much sooner than we would ever have thought.  Wesley is offering his headaches (which are increasing as the pressure from the fluid in his brain increases as these tumors grow), and disabilities , for souls, and other intentions.  He seldom complains, and we are so grateful for the priests (Fr. Rogers, Fr. Fitzpatrick, Fr. Barlett, Fr. Hansen, Fr. Lockwood, Fr. Rocha, Fr. Eickhoff, etc) who have been right there beside us in our painful journey. We stay close to Mary, who knows so well how to stand beside a Son's cross.  We are very thankful for the affection and prayers from so many, in our parish, St. Andrew the Apostle, and from our friends near and far.

I (Wendy , mom) am  a Middle School Science/Math teacher at Holy Cross Catholic School.  I am now off work to care for Wes full time.

We need these funds to replace my salary over these next months, and for Wes'medical care In the days ahead.  For example,
it  looks like Wesley will need a wheelchair and other accomodations today, or in the very near future.

We are so grateful for Wes' life and so proud of this brave son of ours in his heroic struggle with this aggresssive brain cancer.  Thank you so much, from the depths of our hearts, for any support you can provide.  We cannot thank you enough for your prayers and help in this most difficult time.

We were sitting at dinner discussing the fact that Wes may beat us to Heaven.  This saddens us greatly, but also spurs us on to live our lives with our eyes on eternity.    Once again, thank you, thank you, thank you for coming alongside us on this painful journey through your prayes and support!
