WDBF Supporting African Dodgeball

Donation protected
The world’s very first African Dodgeball Federation (ADBF) Championships was an unlikely but welcome next step in bridging cultural and social divides in Cameroon and neighboring countries. Cameroon seeks to instill values of tolerance, acceptance of others and inclusion to combat tribalism and ostracization.

Since its creation in 2012, the World Dodgeball Federation (WDBF) has supported the development of the sport as a means of promoting health and inclusion. Last year, the organization was tasked to confront larger social, religious and cultural divides. The WDBF, along with the ADBF, worked to organize the Africa-wide event held in Yaoundé, Cameroon on January 27 and 28. The event was a success for the host nation, and set a standard to build on in the years to come.

The WDBF is seeking funding through partnerships to help bring the Cameroon Dodgeball Association’s ongoing dream of a healthier, peaceful, inclusive Africa to fruition. As a volunteer organization, the WDBF has committed to providing equipment, coaching and officiating support and assistance with sponsorship for the Championships.

In addition to showcasing the development of the sport, the Championships also served as a springboard to school programs, aiming to provide children – particularly girls – with a means to live a healthier lifestyle, a sense of inclusion, and increased self-esteem in a country when many young girls do not get such opportunities. This program will be shared with the neighboring countries of Chad, Gabon, Niger and the Central African Republic this month in hopes of offering alternatives for the young people in those countries.

In the inaugural edition of this event, the Central African Republic captured the gold medal in the men’s division, while Cameroon took home gold for the women.

Hippolyte KOUM, Director of the African Dodgeball Federation, a regional branch of the World Dodgeball Federation, explains, “We want to pass on a message of Peace, Tolerance, Gender Equality (feminine and masculine), and above all Education for Young Children, ‘For every child taught is a man who is earned’ – Cf. La Fontaine, for a better Africa.”

The World Dodgeball Federation and Dodgeball Canada are proud to support the goals and efforts of Cameroon Dodgeball Association and the African Dodgeball Federation, and would love to count on you for support.
