Help save Vickie #DoItforVickie

I took the time to create this page for my friend, Marcel A. Bouie, in honor of his mother Vickie and the Vickie Bouie Campaign he needs your help to start.

Marcel issued this on his Tumblr:

Mothers are very special people, but my mother is extra special. My mom is my inspiration; she is my hero, and the strongest person I know. I write this letter seeking your compassion and consideration. My name is Marcel Bouie, and my mother has been suffering with cancer for over twelve years. She was first diagnosed on her 39th birthday January 24, 2000. At this time she was a single-parent raising both me and my little sister, Miko. Unfortunately, my late father was incarcerated during this period, so my mom was the sole provider of our household. She has sacrificed her health to provide us with a normal childhood that enabled us to be responsible and productive adults. The impact cancer has had on my mother's life is unmatched. From her original diagnosis of breast cancer, the cancer metastasized into her liver, bones, and has had two surgeries to remove tumors from her brain, which was as recent as last November. Her illness has definitely affected her livelihood. She lost her job, and her peripheral vision, which makes her dependent on family, friends, and the kindness of strangers. Since my sister is still finishing college, my mom constantly worries about financial stability. Though I graduated from Saint Anselm College, I work three jobs that keep me away from my mom for days at a time. At this moment we may be facing the worst. The cancer has spread throughout her body reaching her spine, neck, leg, and groin. It's so hard to look at her go through this because this is the worst she has ever felt while dealing with the cancer. She has survived two terms of brain tumors and breast cancer throughout the years, but now all of the medicine, chemo, surgeries, and pain are taking its toll. She can't drive due to her second brain tumor. She hasn't had a job for years due to her illness. Lately she has had trouble walking, getting out of bed, getting dress, and using the bathroom. Last year on my birthday she was so weak that she couldn't get up after using the bathroom and I tried to help her get her clothes back on and I had troubles lifting her up and we both slowly went to the ground. I started crying because I felt helpless. By the graces of God my father suddenly came to the house and help me get her to the couch. I don't have that help anymore because my father passed away this May. Now my mother condition has reached heights I haven't seen. My sister, aunt, and I drove to New York at the end of last month because my mother was admitted into the hospital. I have seen my mother plenty of times in the hospital but not like this. She was unable to speak; I could barely understand anything she could say. She is at a state of confusion which is painful to witness. Hearing my grandmother and aunts tell me to prepare for the worst wasn't something I wanted to hear because my mom is my wonder woman and she can get through anything. Each day she was progressively getting better which was great to see. We had to go back home to Georgia after three days in New York due to work and school. My grandmother kept me informed on my mother's condition and things were getting better, but when she switched to the rehab facility things started to take a turn. She wasn't eating again or using the bathroom when she had to. Her strength wasn't getting better and she was becoming ill and had to go back to the hospital. I received a call from my grandma Dec 15, 2013 stating my mother's health is worse than before. Now she has pneumonia, over 50 tumors in her liver, and her calcium levels are not stable. I FaceTime the doctor to get a better understanding of my mother's condition and he said they can't do much. He asked me would I want to put her on a life support machine or let her go peacefully if it comes down to it. That is the second time this year that question has been asked to, the first with my father. I had a tough time answering because it may be her time to leave us. It's difficult for me to face that reality because she is my rock, my strength, my inspiration, my best friend, and I could lose that. I feel that I haven't done enough so I'm writing this to let my mother's story of being a single parent with no steady income fighting for her life having stage four cancer for thirteen years while raising two kids, can be heard. She is a miraculous woman that never had help financially from anyone except for her mother. I want you to help me to start the Vickie Bouie Campaign to help raise money for the single mother's with cancer, fighting and struggling every day to pay bills and striving to survive all while raising their children. So please share this with your local news and TV stations to get this story out. We can make a difference for my mom and for other woman around the world. I don't know how much time my mom has left, but it would mean a lot to her if I get this story national coverage before her clock runs out. Time is of the essence. I'm by her side right now praying for her and accepting the fact that her life is in God hands. It is very difficult for me and my family not to be able to converse with her and to see her in this condition in during her favorite time of year. I asked humbly to give my mother a Christmas gift of talk. Talk to your family, friends, co-workers, newscasters, everyone, to help get my mother's story out.

When I posted this story my mother passed away about 10 min later. She fought to her last breathe just gasping for air because she didn't want to go, but it was her time. I originally wanted to start a foundation in honor of my mother, but after I did my research I knew I wouldn't have the time, the people, and financial backing to start a non profit at this point in my life. I decided to do a campaign called #DoItForVickie where I can team up with various foundations and help raise money for women who are going through the same struggles as my mother did. I need help to be heard by these foundations, newspapers, celebrities, and news stations so the #DoItForVickie Campaign can be the voice of the single parent women supporting their family with little help, but I would still like to do all that I can for any women fighting this disease. My mother is an example of a miracle because she was not suppose to live 13 years with stage 4 cancer, but when you have strong will power, faith in God, a positive attitude, and a never give up mentality you can defy all odds.

Sincerely,

Marcel Bouie
