Vaughn: Cutest Dog Ever.

Donation protected
Do you ever make an impulse decision that completely changes your life? Seven and a half years ago I walked past a pickup truck in a Home Depot parking lot with a cardboard sign advertising bunch of Beagle pups were for sale. I didn't even make it in the store! I took one look at the cutest puppy I've ever seen trying to play with a scrap of paper and was hooked. I scooped that little guy up and drove him home.

Vaughn is the kind of dog that even anti-dog people end up loving. He's sweet, gentle, intuitive and such a snuggler. Little kids have tried to pull his years and tail or tried to ride him and he stands there patiently, trying to give them a good dog experience. He has never had any aggressive behavior in his whole life. He just loves everyone! At the dog park, he cares more about making the rounds and getting pet by humans than playing with the other dogs. He's been a constant joy in my life.

Last week, Vaughn started limping a little bit, just enough that would make you think he had a thorn in his paw. We couldn't find any issues and just kept an eye on it. Over the weekend, his pain got obviously worse. He would yelp and howl when walking, and then eventually even if we touched him at all. I took him to the vet first thing Monday morning. They couldn't complete the initial skeletal exam because he was in so much pain, so they gave him some medication and then did the exam again. At that point, they determined the pain was centered around his lower back or left hip area and that an x-ray would help. Even fully sedated, Vaughn howled in pain through the x-ray. The results of his x-ray showed no breaks so the vet sent us to a neurologist.

The neurologist kept Vaughn overnight and ran a series of tests - myelogram, spinal tap, CT scan - all of which came back inconclusive. For the time being, he's doped up on several different medications in hope that his body can recover and he'll bounce back. If not, we'll have to explore other scenarios.

I'm a responsible adult, but unexpected medical bills are a serious concern in an already stressful situation. At the urging of my friends, I'm putting together this page in hopes to raise some funds to cover these expenses. If you are in any way able to donate, we'd be forever grateful. I guarantee this little guy is worth it! We'd also appreciate your good wishes! Between the two vet visits, we've reached a total of $3,000 in bills already. I'm really hoping the medication works and we don't have to go back for more.

I'll continue to keep everyone updated, but you can also find Vaughn on Facebook as Vaughn Perham Lawrence - https://www.facebook.com/Vaughn.The.Dog

Thanks for everything!
