Electric Wheelchair Accessible Van for Shannon!

Donation protected

As most of you know, Dad was diagnosed in 2005 with ALS (or Lou Gehrig's Disease). It has become increasingly difficult for him to be away from home for any long period of time (More than an hour or so...) because regular wheelchairs put a lot of strain on his neck and back. This becomes really painful and uncomfortable for him. So, he really needs to be able to travel with an electric wheelchair that supports his neck and back.

Thus...

We need your help!!! They have actually been able to start using this van shown in the picture and it has been a HUGE blessing to them! But, it still needs to be funded.

The price of this van in and of itself is a huge blessing! Dad and Mom were looking into trying to convert their van, but the cost is $15,000-$20,000! This van was passed down from a woman who recently lost her husband to ALS, and she was hoping to recoup the money that they spent to buy the van themselves.

A couple of churches in the area have already donated $2500 toward this van... So, we still need about $6500. That is 6 churches donating about $1100 each, or 325 people giving $20 each, or 6500 people giving $1 each. Seriously, anything you can do to help would be so so appreciated! (If you can't give monetarily, please pray for this effort and share it on your Facebook wall!!!)

So, I put this out there to all of you in hopes that we can take care of this for them!

Any of you that know my Dad know that he is an amazing man, truly one of a kind! He has always been some one who worked hard and loved to give and help other people in order to show the love of Jesus that he has been given in his own life. I remember being younger, watching him lend out different things for people to use... When we had our boat, he always wanted to share it so that other people could have just as much fun with it as we did. Several times, it came back with different bumps and small holes. But, I never heard him complain about it. He was still just as willing to keep giving out his things, because God had been good to him and he wanted to be good to other people. He spent hours and hours being there for people when babies were born, or family members were sick, or people died. He made friends everywhere he went. (Literally, I met a woman a few years ago who told me that he used to come in to the gas station she worked at all the time to buy breakfast tacos and he always made her day! She just loved him because he could always make her smile! I have a feeling that there are tons of people out there just like her... people that I don't know, but that love my Dad because of the man that he is.) My Dad has always been passionate about the things and people he loved. Sometimes a little too passionate... He was totally the preacher that got kicked out of my soccer game when I was twelve because he just knew that the ref had to be blind! :)

If you know my Dad, then you know that he is truly one of a kind... A really awesome guy and the best Dad I could have ever asked for.

I am asking now that you please consider helping them with this van. It would truly be a huge blessing and an amazing gift to them! It would allow him to spend time outside of the house, still being able to spend time with family and friends and continue to meet new people. And, it would be a huge blessing to our family... So that he can see sports games being played and just all of the things that the kids and grandkids are doing.

Thanks so much for your help!
