UCSC Spring Swim-a-Thon

Tax deductible
The swimmers of the University City Swim Club are participating in a swim-a-thon on April 16th to raise money for their club’s operating expenses and scholarship fund!  They are asking for your support!

What is University City Swim Club?
UCSC is a community treasure.  It has provided high-quality swim instruction and coaching for University City and St. Louis-area swimmers for more than 35 years.   At UCSC, there's a place for everyone, from youth looking to develop their strokes, to those seeking a competitive swim program, to adults seeking coached workouts and a supportive swim community through the Masters program, to parents of youth swimmers who often find their own community in the bleachers during practice!  Our program size enables us to focus on the achievements and goals of individual swimmers.  (Interested in joining the youth or masters teams? Email [email redacted]!)

Why do we need your help?
The Club needs your support to establish a fund that allows us to offer high-quality swim instruction to swimmers regardless of a family's ability to pay. Any funds we receive beyond what we need to cover our operating expenses will go directly to supporting fee reductions.

How much money do we need for reduced fees?
UCSC is committed to welcoming all interested swimmers to the pool, and our standard fees are simply beyond the capacity of many families, including many of our neighbors in University City.  Currently, nearly 70% of youth in University City public schools qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. It is clear that many who live closest to our pools can participate in our club only with financial assistance.

For each swimmer whose family qualifies for a government assistance program (such as Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), or the free/reduced price lunch program), we need $850, to support club and meet fees.  That adds up quickly!  We also require additional funds to offer reduced fees to those families who simply could not participate otherwise.

We are so grateful to the University City Community Foundation for awarding UCSC a grant this year in support of scholarships for area swimmers as well as to the School District of University City for its partnership to reduce our pool rental fees so that we can use that money to offer more financial assistance.

Our coaching team, made up of head coach Larry Edinger, Mary Nani Lhotak, and Jordan Kennedy, are committed to water safety instruction and high-quality and sensitive coaching for all.   Our parent leadership is committed to UCSC being a welcoming space where all swimmers can come together through love of the water.

How can I help?
So glad you asked!  In order to welcome community swimmers to our club who need financial assistance, we need significant and sustained funding sources for scholarships.

Please consider supporting swimmers’ efforts through a donation to UCSC in their honor.  (If you prefer to donate per-lap, your swimmers can let you know how many laps they swam, and you can donate later.)  You can also mail a check, payable to University City Swim Club, to our treasurer, Satomi Stout, at 6607 Alabama Ave., St. Louis, MO 63111.  Make sure to mark your swimmer's name in the memo line!

We are also seeking business sponsorships. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of UCSC, please email [email redacted].  We offer several sponsorship levels and corporate publicity opportunities.  We are grateful for your consideration!
