Troy's Mission Trip to Africa

Donation protected
I have an incredible opportunity to travel to Africa this summer to train pastors with Gate OneSeventeen. I received an email about the trip a month ago from Dana Hicks, a former professor of mine at Northwest Nazarene University. Upon reading it, I immediately trashed the email thinking what did I have to offer and how could I afford the nearly $4000 to go. The next day as I was doing my devotions, God brought the email to my mind and asked me why I was so quick to dismiss an opportunity He had placed in my path. My response was a silly "I do not have the resources." I obediently responded to the email and completed the application not figuring I would be accepted without an education background.

To my surprise and delight, I have been accepted to go. Gate OneSeventeen (www.gate117.com) is a non-profit para-church group working with the Church of the Nazarene in Africa. They are already expecting 40 to 60 pastors to participate at Kigali, Rwanda, one of the three locations we will be staffing in east central Africa. Many of these pastors have only an eighth grade education. There are two groups going a week apart; one June 30-July 11 and the other July 7-July 18. I am not sure yet to which group I will be assigned.

I would appreciate your prayers. As I said this is a huge exercise in faith that God will provide the way and use me to build His Kingdom in this way. The two teams are traveling from a number of places across the US and even a couple of other countries. Please pray for our safety, for those to be trained and for God to be honored.

The trip will cost approximately $4000. This is where I am trusting God to provide what is beyond my ability. I need to raise $1800 by April 12th and the rest by May 27th. I have sent my initial deposit of $200, paid for my passport and will soon be paying for all the necessary immunizations to go to Africa, but I cannot fund the trip on my own. If you would like to support me financially, checks can be written to Gate OneSeventeen and sent to me at:

or you can donate here. Checks written to Gate OneSeventeen are tax deductible and you will receive a charitable gift receipt from them.  I will keep my total raised updated here.

Thank you so much for prayerfully considering helping to send me to Africa. I am excited to see and share with you what God is doing.
