It Takes a Village

The Travis family has endured unimaginable tragedy and we need your financial help. On the surface, they looked like the typical all American family. Julia Travis, along with her brother Scott, were the light of their parents' lives.  Dad, Bob, was a successful criminal defense attorney and mom, Fran, had her own business and was the Georgia State Public Affairs Chair for National Council of Jewish Women.  At the age of 7, Julia was diagnosed with a brain tumor which was treated with radiation.  She went on to graduate high school and college. Like her mom,  Julia became very involved in politics as well as  a spokesperson for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. On June 5, 2018, Julia, the Travis' beloved daughter,  died from a stroke at age 33 due to the effects of the radiation she had as a child. As a teenager, son Scott was diagnosed with Bipolar Disease and currently resides in a Group Home.  Fran and Bob left no stone unturned in trying to find help for their son.  It cost them dearly emotionally and financially.

Fran was in a car accident about 10 years ago and sustained a closed head injury.  Within the past three years, she was diagnosed with dementia.  At about the same time  Bob, who had been failing physically, had back surgery that was not successful and had to be moved  into a nursing home.  The trauma from Julia's death escalated Fran's dementia and it was determined she could no longer live alone.  Fortunately, the "Village" (several friends who are helping with finances, caregivers, etc.) found a Personal Care Home where Fran would be in a safer, more supervised environment but she will likely need a Memory Care placement in the near future. The couple's combined Social Security barely covered the cost of Fran's placement.  Sadly, Bob died on January 17, 2019 which not only affects Fran emotionally but financially as well.  Funds raised through Go Fund Me will be used to help offset some of the costs of her day to day living, pay for her health care, and save for the transition to the more costly  Memory Care.
