TRACE THORNTON - HLSR SPC 2018

Donation protected
So... another year goes by without my son.  The pain and sadness still always present, but somehow I survive it.  Still not sure what God’s plan is for me, but I do feel he provides avenues for keeping Trace’s memory alive and his life not forgotten.  I never know what I will write each year, but this is what I plan to publish in the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Souvenir Program (SPC) for 2018. I thought I would share something some may not know about Trace.  And also a special thing that happened this year where I got to talk about Trace on the radio in Houston!

August 12, 1988, my only child, a son, was born in Dallas, Texas.  He was a preemie, weighing in at only 3 pounds, 10 ounces; sixteen inches long.  I actually went into the hospital four weeks prior – thinking he was going to be born then.  That would have been at twenty eight weeks pregnant, rather than thirty two.  I was in the hospital, on bed rest until that special day, August 12th. He stayed in the intensive care neonatal unit for several weeks, came home on monitors, but ended up being perfect!  He was my miracle baby, Heaven sent.   He made me a mom.  Gave me a purpose in life.  However, as joyful as the day he was born, and blessed all the days after, the worst thing that could ever happen, happened.  God called him back to Heaven on November 1, 2010.  I am thankful for the time I had with him here on earth, but I still miss him so very much, my heart still aches, I am lost ithout him...  I still say to him, out loud, everyday:  "I love you Trace, infinity plus one...”

This year, something special happened where I was live on the radio, talking about Trace!  I listen every morning to 104.1, KRBE radio station on my long commute to work.  I heard one morning, Eric, the producer of the Roula and Ryan Morning Show, say that he never got a Future Farmers of America (FFA) jacket when he participated while growing up in Illinois.  So,  I sent Eric an email telling him that my son, Trace, got two jackets when he was in the Klein Collins High School FFA;  he outgrew the first one.  I wrote Eric I would like to give him one of my son’s jackets.  My only request was if he would recognize my son for the gift, mention his name on the air so that all within their huge radio audience could hear his name.  I told him I had lost my son, his girlfriend Rachel, and their dog Marley in a terrible car accident in 2010.  The next thing I know, Eric called and asked me to bring the jacket and be on the radio station one morning.  My sweet girlfriend, Laurie Davis, went with me, drove me, for moral support as it is difficult to talk about my loss, but I do so want people to remember Trace.  So, on February 22, 2017, Roula, Ryan, Eric, Special K, and Krystina, of the Roula and Ryan show, hosted me to talk about Trace, live on the air, during their show!  I was so nervous and really don’t remember what I said, but I did talk about Trace  - and so many got to hear his name!  It was so special....  I so appreciate the KRBE Morning Show caring and allowing me that venue to honor my son.  They said they were going to put Trace’s FFA jacket in a shadow box, along with the first SPC ads I bought (2015) and display in their studio.

I also so appreciative all of you, who each year, donate to the HLSR in honor of Trace.  But donations are not necessary to honor my son.  Simply signing your name, or writing a note or sending me a message that I can publish in the SPC program for 2018 will do!  If you wish to donate, please do so via GoFundMe.  If you wish to simply sign his page, just send me an email, write on my Facebook page or send me a message.  And, feel free to share this stpry and/or forward.  Thank you all so much for remembering and honoring my son.

Love, Trace's mom, Nina
