October 2014 Update!!!
Unfortunately my cancer has come back and was detected on my last PET scan this past October. I had stomach pain off and on starting in June, later on showed it was due to UTI's which I ended up having several after that. I was sent to a urologist because my right kidney was massive and the urethra was dilated out in the pelvic area.
Turns out it's the tumor compressing on my urethra (tube between kidney and bladder) so urine is backing up to the kidney instead of emptying in the bladder and causing damage to the kidney.
The Urologist decided to put a stent in and ordered several tests including two renal scans and ultrasound. The doctor confirmed I have permanent damage on my right kidney and it's barely functioning, so my treatment plan of starting chemo with radiation was put on halt and got delayed; very frustrating for me and the doctors. Finally the radiology oncologist decided we have to start radiation. I've had 23 treatments so far; over my whole stomach, pelvic, and all the lymph node areas. Let me tell you: it's been kicking my butt BIG-time with major issues with my appetite, stomach pain where I would go to the bathroom shortly after I would eat. I've been dropping a lot of weight lately and been feeling very drained. I have not even been able to workout in about a week and as you all know that speaks volumes!!! As the workout itself keeps me sane and going plus I truly believe it's been so beneficial.
November 18th was a long day; five excruciating hours at the cancer institute! My head was spinning with all the information from, doctors' visits, making terrifying decisions, and future treatment planning.
Yesterday, at 8 am, I started back on chemo (a different type than Im used to) for 6 hours a week for 6 weeks (if my body can handle it). This is being combine with the radiation treatment. It is a scary decision to make since it comes with a high risk of kidney failure and I could end up on dialysis.
