Battle Won, War Lost (aka Cancer Sucks!)

It’s with an extremely heavy heart that we put this campaign together. After Cindy’s brave year and a half battle with breast cancer we thought she was in the clear. Our mother was relieved to know she would get to see her youngest child (Sam) graduate from the University of Ohio this December, continue the extra care for her middle child (Emily) and to look forward to a life full of opportunities with her oldest child (Carrie).

Then she got what we thought was pneumonia. After a week or so of antibiotics with no improvement and increasing breathing problems; Cindy, very reluctantly, called an ambulance and was taken to the hospital. After a day and a half of IV antibiotics, x-rays, scans and more pokes than anyone wants, the worst news we could get “the cancer is back, in the liver and lungs, it's aggressive, it’s devastating.”

The outlook at this point isn’t good; our plans are palliative care to help her quality of life and spending as much time with our mother as we can. This has ground our lives to a screeching halt; the rest of the world has not.  While FMLA protects all of our careers, travel expenses, rents, utilities and other expenses keep coming all while we are trying to spend as much time as we can with our mother. We are out of options medically, being together as a family at this time is all we can do.

It’s terrible, it’s awful, it’s sad and it’s maddening. We are asking for your help. Rest assured any remaining funds, will be donated to another family in need; paying it forward.
