Matt’s doctor will not be releasing him to return to work until March. He has been denied unemployment because he is considered “on a leave of absence”. He has only just gotten the insurance information from the person who hit him. Meanwhile, his daily bills are mounting, his property taxes are due, his power is going to be shut off, etc. It’s frustrating that his life is in such turmoil from someone else’s carelessness! We’ve been helping as much as we can but we’re stretched as far as we can go.
Please, if you can help in anyway to ease some of his financial stress we would be forever grateful!

Our son, friend, co-worker, etc., Matt Thurmond, was on his way to work on his bicycle. He left his house at 3:30am on Sunday 9/16/18. Approximately 10 minutes later, he was hit by a vehicle and the driver left him laying unconscious on the side of the road. He laid there for approximately 20-25 minutes, waking up at some point, in the dark, unable to get up. He tried to flag down a couple of cars that passed by but they didn’t see him. Finally, a deputy who happened to take a wrong turn saw him and he was taken by flight for life to UMC trauma. He suffered broken facial bones around his eye and cheek, bruised lungs, broken ribs, a lacerated liver, a badly cut knee, and a broken pelvis, along with road rash all over. But he survived!! He won’t be able to work for some time and is of course amassing medical bills that he’ll have to deal with if the driver isn’t found. So he needs all the help he can get, not just for the medical, but his regular monthly bills. Those that know Matt, know he helps whomever he can. Now he needs a hand. Even if it’s just sharing this so it gets more attention, it’s greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
