The Table Ministry

What is The Table?
The Table is a thriving ministry at Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community on the South Side. It is a bi-weekly community dinner geared towards meeting the needs of those who are hungry. Hungry for food, relationship, and most importantly hope. The people that attend our meals include elderly people looking for communion, the homeless, the addicted as well as those struggling with their mental health. Every Tuesday and Thursday we serve a meal for up to 100 people from our surrounding community. We eat and laugh and struggle together as we go about life. Not only does this ministry provide 2 meals a week, pastoral care, and a clothing closet but this ministry has become a family to those without a family and a safe place they know they are welcome in.

Who do we serve?
This ministry is self funded through donations. Our meals are donated and prepared by various churches, non-profits and individuals from our congregation. Each night we serve anywhere from 75-100 meals and take-outs are provided for shut ins, the equivalent to 9,000 meals a year.

This ministry serves those who are the most vulnerable in our community but we also serve our volunteers by providing a reciprocal relationship in which we can grow deeper in relationship with each other and in what God is doing in our communities. The Table provides many opportunities for people to participate in what God is doing and thus learn more about who God is and how God works in this world.

Where does the funding go?
We are asking for funds to sustain the Table Ministry. The funds will go to help support The Table Minster who  provides pastoral care, oversees the flow of each night, recruits, coordinates and builds relationships with the volunteers, and creates and sustains new and existing partnerships.

The funds will also be used to cover overhead costs for building use and food for when volunteers are unable to cover those costs.

As we work toward making The Table financially sustainable in the long run, we are still in need of 2018 funds. If we can raise these funds, The Table will have the freedom to grow and transform in ways that will only be possible in a financially sustainable setting.

The goal for 2018 is to raise a Table Minister salary of $12,000 and an Operating Budget of $5,000 bringing our combined total to $17,000.
