Team Clarke Switzerland run for ALS

My name is Sue Clarke and I live in Switzerland with my three beautiful children, Molly, Aimee and Sam.
When I did my ice bucket challenge, along with millions of other people last summer, I nominated by Brother, David Clarke, a Professional Golfer and keen sportsman. He lives about an hour away from me in Baden, Switzerland.
Little did I know that by that time, he had already been experiencing symptoms of what would later turn out to be the dreaded ALS .He had first noticed 'drop foot' whilst out jogging, plus there were other symptoms which at first had seemed minor (his voice sounded croaky.....my mum nagged him for a year to get that seen to!) and he also noticed he wasn't hitting the golf balls as far as he should be.
After literally walking in off the street to the A&E Department at the Hospital of Baden one day late last year, he was immediately admitted for a whole host of tests. Two weeks later came the news which would devastate us and change our lives forever. I'll never forget the night of December 3. 2014, when I called him and he told me he had 'the big one'. Nothing has been the same for any of our family since that day, and it never will be again.......
My children and I have decided we want to do something, not only to raise money, but also more awareness of this awful disease. How many of us really appreciated the real reason we did the Ice Bucket Challenge? I certainly didn't!
We will be taking part in the Swiss City Marathon later this year. I will run the half marathon and my eldest daughter Molly will do the five mile run.
Please support us with this and other fundraising activities. 50% of donated money will go to ALS-Schweiz . This is our local support group which provides valuable help, counselling, networking and other services for sufferers and their families in Switzerland. The other 50% will go to ALS Therapy Development Institute . The number one bio technology non profit organisation dedicated to developing effective treatment for ALS.
