Hello my name is Tatyana Goyco, I was born in Vineland, NJ. I presently live with my parents and younger sister in Bronx, NY. We moved to the Bronx after my father finished 8 years in the US Army and became a Youth Pastor.
This upcoming fall of 2014 I will be a Freshman at Messiah College in their Pre-Med Program. My goal is to become a Neuro-Oncologist.
I want to become a Neuro-Oncologist to be a part of the cure for Cancer. I lost my paternal grandmother to Cancer and my sister has an inoperable benign brain stem tumor, therefore I have a personal connection with this disease. Being a part of finding the cure for such a widespread disease would be a great honor for me.
I am not your typical student. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy and Aspergers Syndrome one month before entering high school. As a result of having Epilepsy, I missed a lot of school due to many hospitalizations. In the summer of 2012, I had a Frontal Lobe Lobectomy to remove an Arachnoid Cyst in addition to the left Hippocampus (memory and emotions center), left language center and some other brain matter resulting in 1/4 of my brain matter being surgically removed. I wear a Medic-Alert Motion Monitor that detects when I fall from a seizure and alerts my contact or medical personnel of my location.
Even though I have had many medical obstacles, by the grace of God I still manage to maintain a 3.8 GPA and received an $11,500.00 Academic Scholarship for Messiah College. With everything that I've been through, I'm still believing and trusting in God that He will provide the remaining tuition. There are a couple of supplies that I will be needing for college. I am in need of a MacBook Pro laptop and dorm necesities both of which are listed in my Wish List.
Thank you in advance for your donation.
