Hi-my name is Tammy Phillips. After recommendation from a co-worker, I've decided to break out of my norm and ask for help. Those who know me, know that I can be strong-willed and/or stubborn and oh so independent! My style is about to be transformed.
This last month I went for a rountine mammogram that I was running about 6 months behind on getting. Within a few days I received a letter stating that I needed to go back for more imaging. At the next appointment the radiologist talked to me as he pointed to "calcium deposits" on the imaging and said, "It's time to not ignore this."
Within a couple of weeks I was fortunate to get in at Stephanie Spielman Breast Center for a biopsy. That was last November 28th. On December 1st I got the phone call that no one ever wants to get. My results were positive for breast cancer.
I will be meeting within a week with a team of surgeons to discuss my options, so my prognosis and stage are unknown to me. It could range from a lumpectomy to masectomy including radiation and/or chemo.
I do know that my job as a Physical Therapist Assistant will be put on hold until after a time of treatment and recovery. I have turned to "go fund me" due to the fact that my job at present can only offer me FMLA, time off with no pay. Also, my insurance premiums have more than doubled and I'm unsure if this will be considered pre-existing when the new plan starts January 1st.
Another reason for my concern is that when I am not at work, I am my husband's primary caregiver. One year ago, only 6 months after our marraige, he had respiratory failure, secondary to a disease called Inclusion Body Myositis. He requires 24/7 care.
For this reason also our household need will increase as I will be involved in my own recovery, and someone will need to take my place as his caregiver.
I am planning this what seems to be "early on", as I don't want to wait until I need my strength for recovery.
If you are not inclined to donate, please pray for our families and our health. Mike and I have 7 children and 4 grandchildren. It affects all of them- siblings and parents alike.
The funds will be used for travel expense for Dr. appts, medical, caregiving and household expenses.
Please take every opportunity to make every moment in life and in relationships a memory with no regrets. It is the holidays and there will be more than enough opportunities given.
