Please help Talia battle Leukemia

Shortly after her eighth birthday in March, usually sweet, bubbly Talia seemed to change. She started having headaches and other symptoms that concerned her parents. After weeks of visits to doctors, various tests, and a couple of misdiagnoses, the family received an early morning phone call asking that Talia immediately be brought to Dell Children’s Hospital. Talia was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) on Wednesday, May 11th.

 

To say the Gardner family's world was turned upside down would be an understatement. That same day, Talia received several blood transfusions and the very next day was scheduled for surgery. During surgery a mediport device was placed in her chest to administer treatment via catheter into a larger vein; the device is also used to collect blood samples and other tests. Talia started chemotherapy treatment that evening and will likely continue treatment over the next two years. This is just a small part of what this little warrior faces. There will be numerous spinal taps and bone marrow samples, while the effects of chemotherapy itself could leave Talia exhausted, nauseated, and even irritable at times, making it difficult for her to continue life as she once knew it. Talia has already been taken out of her second-grade class and once she becomes more immunocompromised it is difficult to say when she could return to school or even interact with her friends and peers.

 

Talia's family will be sacrificing a lot over the coming months. Nona has already stepped away from her business in order to stay home and care for Talia. Even with insurance, medical expenses for what Talia faces over the next two years, will be exorbitant. And all this while down to one income.

 

This is why we, family and friends, are asking for help in alleviating some of their financial burdens. Help Nona and James focus on what matters most - Talia and her journey to full recovery. All funds received are automatically deposited into the Gardner family account, and no other persons are involved in the financial transactions or transfer of money. Lobna Gardner will use all funds raised towards medical expenses, child care, groceries and any other expenses related to her treatments as incurred and resulting directly from Talia's Leukemia recovery and associated necessary support efforts.
