Sherry's Medical & living expenses
My sister Sherry Reed was diagnosed on 1/24/14 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This monster of a disease is aggressive, and must be treated the same way. She was placed in North Kansas City Hospital on 1/28/14 to begin Chemo treatments. She is expected to be in the hospital for at least 5-6 weeks. Of course during this time she will be unable to continue working. She is out of sick days at work, and so everyday that she is off work will be deducted from her pay. As you can all imagine, this is causing her some concern and stress, since unfortunately life on the outside of this hospital room continues to go on. Sherry needs to focus solely on KICKING AML LEUKEMIA's Backside...not on finances!
Those of you who know my sister know that she is a very strong, independent, and proud woman. She graduated college in 1980 with her masters degree in Speech Pathology, and has worked in that field since that time! She raised her son on her own, and supported him through a horrible custody battle that lasted 4 years!! She is a loving daughter who helps our mother do whatever needs to be done, a supportive & loving mother, she is a wonderful sister to me, she is also a wonderful friend to have in your corner when you need backing, a great friend for a night out filled with laughter, and a friend to go to when you just need someone to listen. Now is a time that Sherry needs all of us! Prayers are always great, and always needed too!!!
That is the situation that Sherry is in at this time. She needs the support of all who know and love her. I know I set the goal amount very high...but I was trying to set it to an amount that would cover normal monthly bills, along with any medical costs... above and beyond what her insurance will pay, while she is in the hospital, and during her home recovery time. We are new to the cancer club, and have no idea what typical treatment costs are for the patient...I figure we have to start somewhere!
