WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.
Our goal is to outfit at least one volunteer fire brigade with the necessary equipment to be able to safely and effectively fight the fires that happen much too frequently in our region.
Our volunteer firefighters need quality boots and personal protective clothing (PPE). They need fire pumps to hook up to the water tanks, they need hoses, fire-pump backpacks, and VHF handheld radios.
Any funds raised will go to outfit at least 10 volunteers with PPE. If we exceed those funds, our ultimate goal would be to raise money for a portable fire-pump and 3 hoses of 25m each. These are light-weight pumps that can be carried in a backpack and enable our fire fighters to reach the fire in the most challenging terrain and then pump the water from any stream, lake or water tank in proximity. We estimate the cost of one of these fire-pump backpacks in Argentina to be approximately $3000USD.
There have been several fires this year in our region of Patagonia but on March 10th, 2021 the worst fire in the region's history raged out of control, destroying the homes of more than 200 families. Donations of clothing, food and household necessities have been coming in from all over the country to help these affected families.
The fire brigade in charge of forest fires consists of a small number of paid employees and the rest of the firefighters are volunteers. There is never enough personnel to be everywhere that is needed.

Many of these men and women have no protective clothing, they return with burns and bruises, the soles of their boots melted off from the heat of the fire. To reach the affected zones they go in their personal vehicles or hiking with their backpacks filled with their own shovels, machetes and chainsaws.

You can be guaranteed that any funds raised in this campaign will only be used to purchase the necessary equipment for the volunteer fire fighters of Mallin Ahogado. The funds received will be deposited into my personal Canadian account where I will then send to Argentina using Western Union. All equipment purchased will be recorded and stored in a shed accessible to the volunteer firefighter brigade in Mallin Ahogado.
