Support Black people fleeing Ukraine

It all started with a tweet. Before we knew it, three Black women had come together to raise money to rescue Black lives, especially students, who were being discriminated against while trying to flee a wartorn Ukraine.
The past several days of fundraising, liaising with students and volunteers, disbursing funds, and one of us trying to get out of Ukraine herself, have been hectic, frustrating, stressful but also energising to see way our community can come together to support and protect each other when the rest of the world refuses to do so.
Through it all, we’ve worked hard to ensure that every pence we raise is accounted for and sent as quickly as possible to Black people in need that we have verified. In order to scale what we were doing, we knew we’d have to bring on more people, but that also meant more chances for issues to arise.
Therefore, we've decided, for the sake of further transparency, accountability and due diligence, to make what we are doing even more official and so we would like to formally announce our new organisation: Black Women for Black Lives, or BW4BL for short.
Having an official organisation, and more specifically a name and logo associated with what we are doing, will allow us to streamline our message and our work and ensure that there is no confusion about what we are doing and who we are doing it for. We also want to clarify that the work we’ve been doing and BW4BL is in no way associated with any other organisation soliciting for funds to help Africans and Afro-Carribeans in Ukraine. Any request for funds or proof of disbursing those funds have come from us and only us.
We are working to expand the volunteer team and are also exploring partnerships that will help us scale the work we are doing, but as of now, no other organisations, handles, or individuals are able to speak on our behalf. All official statements and information will only be coming from the following handles:
