Street Cats of Forest Hills

Friends and neighbors. A couple of weeks ago I was contacted about a situation in Forest Hills. There is a long history here of a cat colony caretaker not doing the right thing. The cats were tossed outside over 2 years ago and a woman started feeding them. She moved away about a year ago leaving the cats on the streets to without a consistant feeder.
I and other rescuers had been contacted about the situation about a year ago and was told that she wanted to move the cats to her....or she wanted to rehome them...or get them into sanctuary (the story was always changing)....but whenever push came to shove, she was an obstructionist who would interfere to the point that rescues would walk away.
I discussed the situation with two very large rescue groups who were all too familiar with the woman. I was told she's been a thorn in their side for years and it's always drama and crazy stories.
Additionally, people in the area have been removing the little food that people do leave for them or spraying the food with chemicals. Also, people have threatened to poisen them! It's urgent that we get them to safety now!
Fast forward, we are saving these approximately 8 cats. We know close to nothing about them other that at one time they had a much better life indoors. One has lost both his eyes while living out on the streets.
We are a small organization without a lot of resources and entirely run by volunteers and donations.
Trapping will begin this Monday and we need funds to help get these cats medical care as well as regular vetting. Additionally, two (including the blind cat) already have a home lined up in CT, so we either need a volunteer to transport them or we will need to pay to have them driven. We are also looking for volunteers to hold these cats (could be in a garage before they are vetted or in a crate in your home after they are vetted) and to help us evaluate if they are suitable for adoption. Long term boarding at the vet is too expensive an option but we will need funds for short-term boarding while we search for placement.
We expect that not all cats will be suitable candidates for adoption after living on the streets for over two years. Some might be extremely feral by now. Those cats will go to live their lives in a safe santuary (it's $500 per cat to get them in).
We hope you will donate to this effort to help us get these cats to safety. No amount is too small!
