All I Want For Christmas Are My Eyelids

St. Nick has an issue that will require eye surgery. We are guessing the little guy to be 6 - 8 weeks old. We found him in the middle of the highway on Christmas morning. He had nearly been run over and then darted back out of the street. Oddly Carey was able to get to him without him running off. He hissed, but that was ok:.. he was just defending his little self.

His eyes were crusted shut and it was obvious that he could not see.

After cleaning him up and feeding his belly he started purring and "˜making biscuits'.

We just knew that with a little medicine he would be ready to find a forever home. Then with the trip to the Vet, the news came:.St. Nick had been born without completely formed eyelids and needed surgery. Estimates are around $2500. At this point we don't know the extent of aftercare / complications. If we can reach the $2500 mark, we can move ahead. If not, I don't know what will happen.

Eyelids protect the cornea of the eye. Without them, the hairs (eyebrows) continuously rub against the eyeball causing ulcerations. They also help to lubricate the eye which helps to relieve the aggravation of dust and other particles. Without eyelids, it is very painful and potential blindness could be the end result.

So his roaming in the highway was because he could not see and had no clue where he was, and that was the reason that he didn't run when Carey approached him, even though he was a scared lil guy.

Nick's current daily care is being looked after by Christi, who has agreed to see Nick through this difficult time.
