Spacious Skies Charter School

Tax deductible
Spacious Skies Charter School (SCSS) has a vision:  Guided by a developmental framework, Spacious Skies is a project-based learning (PBL) school that guarantees each child a quality education by providing joyful and challenging learning experiences in a safe and caring environment.  Throughout the Pikes Peak region, PBL is mostly offered to students identified as gifted and talented, or enrolled in private schools. Currently, School District 49 has no designated PBL schools.  SCSS’s target population are students who do not typically benefit from PBL, including children of color, students from low-income backgrounds, and students who receive special education services. We are prepared to address the barriers faced by such students, like lack of access to high-quality curriculum and instruction, low expectations, and trauma associated with living in poverty.

But 2020 is the Year of the Unexpected.  Most of us, on personal, professional, familial, and community levels, are experiencing challenges that we could not have anticipated.  Spacious Skies is no different – last March we made the difficult decision to petition the district for a one-year deferment in light of the unpredictability of the coronavirus pandemic.

Our experience this fall is quite different than what we had hoped. We thought we'd be enjoying the beginnings of our inaugural year at Spacious Skies Charter School.  We thought we'd be getting to know our families, creating our school culture, planning activities, learning about one another, establishing traditions, and building our legacy. Instead, we as a Board are working hard to stay connected to our potential families and to make sure that we are ready to open in the Fall of 2021.

Would you consider partnering with us? Because of our deferment, and the expected reduced state and federal revenue due to COVID, we are faced with continuing financial needs.  In order to provide a strong start for our students next year, we need the support of our community.  To give securely online, visit our website at spaciousskies.org, and share our efforts on social media with gofundme.com/SpaciousSkies.  Receive an “I Support Spacious Skies” window cling for each donation over $25!

Thank you for your consideration – with your help, we are excited to bring our vision to life!
