My Son's Fight with Rare Cancer.

Donation protected
Mine is a father's story,  a grandfather's story, and unfortunately an American Story.  My son Andrew, age 37, for 5 years has had an undiagnosed illness,  frequent and violent diarrhea,  nausea, and vomiting. The simple act of eating would trigger this reaction. Complicated by severe dehydration and kidney stones,  (92 at last count), leading to scarring,  urinary tract  infections and sepsis.

 43rd kidney stone

After 11 months at the Mayo Clinic  and $67,000 after insurance payments, they had no  diagnosis. "We know you have something and it is bad, but  we don't know what it is." He has spent months and months in Ohio State and other hospitals.   Even with private insurance, the medical bills led to brankruptcy, because of over $300,000 of dollars in debt.

A year ago,  the National Institute for Health in Washington DC diagnosed him with a rare cancer that was causing  Carcinod Syndrome. This condition results from small slow growing tumors that produce hormones which trigger the symptoms I described. They are often missed by conventional scans.

Neuroendocrine  tumors (NET) reduce life expectancy 5 to 8 years from diagnosis. This is a new field in cancer research.   We pray for a scan that will find the tumor  and  treatment.  New scans are being trialed around the world.  Andrew is currently in a study with the NIH. Europe has an aggresive approach to this illness.  Currently he is getting a medicine called Sandostatin LAR - this drug alone can cost up to $23,000 a month. This  drug has helped relieve some of the severest symptoms.  He still must go to the emergency  room to get  IV fluids. If Andrew's family didn't have enough "bad luck", my  4 year old grand daughter Abygail has epilepsy. Andrew and Amy have to stay on top of her medical needs, and Andrew had even had to do CPR on her once.

My goal for this plea is to raise $100,000 to stop the foreclosure on their home of 8 years, and living and medical  expenses while we wait for treatment.  I want to keep my little grand daughters in their home.  And keep this family together.

- THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS.  NO DONATOIN IS TO SMALL, EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO DONATE, IT WOULD BE SO GREATLY APPRECIATED IF YOU COULD SHARE THIS PAGE TO YOUR FACEBOOK AND / OR E-MAIL CONTACTS. THAT WOULD BE A BLESSING FOR ANDREW, AMY, AND THEIR LITTLE GIRLS. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!! -
