Simon Doidge's equipment fund

My name is Nicola Doidge and I am mum to Simon. Simon is 11 months old and was born with Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida. I was taken to Liverpool Women's Hospital to have Simon and he was taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital within 3 hours. He had his 1st operation at 16 hours old, which at the time was the worst day of my life waiting. A few days later he did not seem right and I was told he had developed Hydrocephalus and had his 1st VP Shunt at 12 days old. It was not successful and he had another one at 24 days old. He spend the first 6 weeks in hospital, but them we were in and out with a number of problems. Simon also has club feet and dislocated hips, which he was in casts and a brace to try and fix them, but it has not help. He also had a number of UTI's and again this caused his kidneys to have slight damage. He now has a stoma, which up till now has been successful. In his short life he has undergone 11 operations, but he smiles and is such a joy to watch and look after.


I am trying to make life as best as possible for Simon and we are trying to raise funds for his first wheelchair, his chair, bath equipment, sleep system and a standing aid. Unfortunatly the NHS has run out of money and we are unable to get most of it until he is three years old. This would enable Simon to have as much independence as most other children.


We are doing a number of fundraising events ourself but if anyone could help with his fund Simon and his family would very much appreciate it.


We have just found out that simon is no longet able to be in his normal buggy as he needs a specialist one as he needs a lot of support
