Rolin's Vision Preservation Fund

About 8 years ago my nephew Rolin, a hardworking, responsible young man was diagnosed with a rare and progressive eye disease called Keratoconus. This condition results in thinning of the front of the eye leading to misshapen corneas and loss of proper refraction. What does this mean, practically? Without intervention Rolin's vision will continue to deteriorate through his young adulthood, resulting in blindness.
For the last decade he has dealt with the magnitude of this disease with maturity, grace, and an inspiring appreciation of the marginal vision he does still have. In an effort to prevent or slow further vision loss he has been enrolled in a clinical trial at a specialty Eye Institute. He was lucky enough to get one of the last enrollment slots and will start before the end of the year. Rolin is an excellent candidate for a successful strengthening of the cornea via collagen crosslinking. While most of the cost of the trial materials and surgery are covered, there have been substantial out of pocket costs in the lead-up period - a fraction of which is sought here.
To know this kid is to know that he (family included) would NEVER ask for a handout, which is why I am initiating this fund on his behalf. For years those close to him have all struggled with our collective inability to help in any meaningful way. Until now. Finally there's something I can do to help - I can help offset some of the cost of his care while he fights to save his remaining vision - so he and his family don't have to go into debt to preserve his future.
