Sherry Valiquette Memorial Fund

Donation protected
On Wednesday, January 3rd, Sherry Valiquette (maiden name, Dickerson) was found unresponsive in her home by her son, Johnny. She was air-lifted from Escanaba, MI to Green Bay, WI where she remained on life support until Friday, January 5th, when her family chose to allow her to pass peacefully. Sherry is survived by two children - Johnny Valiquette and Amy Sagataw, who happens to be one of my oldest childhood friends.

I grew up down the street from Sherry, Amy and their family in Wells, Michigan and we have played an active role in each others' lives since the time we were in third grade, when their family moved to Wells and Amy joined my elementary school class.

I watched the way Sherry cared for her children and the local Native American communities as we grew up. Sherry had a big heart and spent more than 15 years working to provide services to aid the local Native American communities. She was often recognized as a pillar in these communities at one point in time.

Difficult times fell on Sherry and in struggling to cope with the challenging circumstances she faced, she went down a path that ultimately caused her to be unable to care for her children and loved ones around her. I cannot pretend to understand what she was going through; the truth is that nobody can. In the end, I prefer to remember Sherry for the good person that she was and the big heart that I, and so many others, know she had.

I am raising funds to help Amy and her family cover the expenses associated with cremetion, memorial services and other expenses that arise with an untimely death around the holidays.

I know that many of us are actively seeking ways to give back and help improve our communities, especially in recent times. I can tell you that this is a great way to give back to good people in need who need the support. Any and every amount will be greatly appreciated as Amy and her family work through the challenging steps ahead.

Thank you for your support!
