In loving memory of Shayla Karlson

On July 6th, 2017, our beloved daughter, sister, auntie, and friend Shayla was unexpectedly taken from us after succumbing to complications from tonsillitis.
Shayla was a beautiful and vivacious young woman, studying Anthropology at Minnesota State University – St. Cloud, after graduating from Anoka High School in May of 2016. She was very active in her church community, participating in the annual Easter play, singing in choir, and attending youth retreats and camps with her peers. Shayla gave of her time, weekly volunteering with the Animal Humane Society.
As a social butterfly, Shayla thrived while spending time with her amazing friends. She had an infectious energy, and was never afraid to let her radiant self shine – even in front of the camera! Her love for animals was evident every moment she was around them, whether picking up the nearest chicken or rescuing a kitten in need. She adored children, especially playing with her two nephews. Shayla lived with passion and love; her playful spirit will be missed dearly.
Shayla leaves behind parents Robert and Valerie, three older sisters, two nephews, and countless family and friends who loved her dearly. This fund is being set up to help her family with hospital bills, end-of-life expenses, student loans, and other expenses.
Thank you for any donations. Any remaining funds will be donated to Shayla’s favorite charitable cause: The Animal Humane Society of Coon Rapids, MN.
