Shannon Needs a Wheelchair Van

Donation protected

Update 11/27/2015: I did it, I bought a Van! I do still need a little more help because my Van needs some new parts (mainly little things. For example, the part that holds the back doors open broken and won't hold the door while I am loaded in) and the lift needs a new part to make it automatic. Then, I will be able to get the title, registration, and insure my van so my caregivers can drive me in places! Thanks everyone!
(If you click the 'CC' button it will show text of what I say since my speech slurs)
When I was 10 years old, mom mentioned my clumsiness to my pediatrician during a routine check up. He checked me for scoliosis, since I was at that age anyway, and he saw a slight curve going to the left (scoliosis typically goes to the right unless something is causing it). He then checked my knees for reflexes only to discover I don't have any. And so we began the journey of trying to figure out what was going on! After 3 years of being poked, prodded, and numerous negative tests, my dad found out his cousin had Friedreich's Ataxia. My doctor was convinced FA was what I had too!
I had a positive blood test at 17 (they hadn't developed a test until then) and I've been fighting the disease for 20+ years with no plans to give up! I'm trying to get a job with children so I can put my BA and certificate to good use but I need to purchase a wheelchair accessible van so I could easily get to work. I cannot drive but if i purchase a van, I can drive my powerchair inside and my caregivers can drive me to work. I want to teach children tolerance of others and just because someone looks different on the outside doesn't mean they're different on the inside.
I need help raising the money to buy one because my only income is SSI which isn't much.  Not only will it get me to work no problem but it can open a door to a world I cannot experience because I can't get there! Thanks everybody for your time and help!
