Dear Family and Friends,
Nathan has received a very prestigious nomination to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security; exploring Diplomacy, Intelligence and Defense, in Washington, D.C., (www.nylf.org) coming up the week of October 8th (yes, in just a few short weeks!!).
Its a pretty awesome opportunity for him. For attending the six day forum, he will receive college credit from George Mason University and of course, the opportunity to visit our Nation's Capital, which will be a first for him.
He received the nomination package back in late May, but we put off committing because of the unique education that Nathan is currently receiving. He effectively is enrolled in THREE schools. He is doing duel enrollment at Millennium High school, and at Estrella Mountain Community College for English credit, through his AP English course, as well as, attending West-MEC (www.westmec.org) for an FAA Airframe and Power-plant Certification. Basically, he attends his first 3 periods at MHS, and then he attends West-MEC from 1:10 to 5:30, daily). So, we had to make sure that both schools would allow for him to miss a week of school to attend the Forum.
He is incredibly dedicated, and is working hard towards his future goals. He is already looking into the application process for his first choice of schools, Columbia University in New York City, to study Architecture, and perhaps, Film. Currently, Columbia is rumored to have a 7% acceptance rate for applicants, so his attending this Form is one more thing that will set him apart from the competition for where ever he applies. His goal is to work his way through college, utilizing his FAA Certification (as an airplane mechanic). And then, much to his mother's apprehension, wants to travel the world.
So, this is where the help of family and friends comes in; we need to raise the money for the tuition and travel expenses, and a business attire which is required for the Forum sessions.
With all of the events going on in our world regarding global relations, they have to much to teach and discuss at this Forum. Nathan is excited to get to be a part, at such a pivotal time for our Nation, as we wrestle with issues of foreign policy, diplomacy, and National Security.
Much THANKS for your generous support!!
