Healing Sam's feet wounds w/HBO
Donation protected
As many of my friends already know, my husband has diabetes and has already had 3 toes amputated. Since July 2017, he's been fighting to heal yet another bad wound on his right foot and over the past couple weeks has developed a wound on the bottom of his left foot.
He's had 2 surgeries, the last in January in efforts to get the wound healed, and unfortunately with the most recent surgery, the incision didn't hold (dehisced) and we've been trying to get him healed with very little progress. Aggressive treatment with a negative pressure wound vac therapy even failed. Today he was evaluated for a very expensive treatment called Hyperbaric Oxygen or HBO. It involves daily treatments in an enclosed chamber being exposed to pure oxygen. Since December we've been working with private doctors rather than the VA, so the VA will very likely not help pay for the treatments. 80% of the treatment is covered under his Medicare disability, but Sam does not have a co-insurance/supplemental coverage, and the out of pocket for us is $150 per treatment - and he's been told he needs at least 40 treatments - 5 times a week for the next 8 weeks. All of this is in an effort for him to NOT lose his foot. He is a very good candidate as he has excellent blood flow to the feet and his blood sugars are very well controlled. He is doing all he can to stay off his feet, eat healthy and stay positive.
Those that know me know I do not like to ask for help - I prefer to be the one doing the helping. But here I go - I am asking for help - because we can't come up with the money to pay for this over the next 8 weeks and Sam is very worried about the cost and more medical bills piling up. I am asking that you share this post if you are unable to donate - please get the word out to as many people as possible. If you are able to donate, please know every dollar is appreciated.
I just want this husband and dad to be able to get up again and do fun things with us as a family, walk, throw a ball, go to the zoo, on family vacations - Please help me give him the best chance to keep his foot, for him and for our family. Thank you, Jeanette
