Breezy's front left leg was amputated due to a bad infection back when she was about 3 months old. Unfortunately due to the entire leg & shoulder not being removed she now requires a second surgery. As you can see in the photos, Breezy's front left leg has a point in her bone that has created an abscess. The swelling began roughly a week ago (Feb 2nd) and has quickly progressed. This surgery can cost anywhere from 2,000 - $4,500. The estimate will be made in the next few days and our 'goal' will change accordingly.

Back Story:
Breezy is a rescue from Arkansas. She is a 6-month-old, whippet mix that lost her leg back in late October 2014. When surrendered by her original owners at the shelter Breezy's front left leg was very swollen. Normally an injured/sick dog in this situation would have been put to sleep, however the Animal Control Officer was not in that day to make the call.
A volunteer had spotted this sweet girl and went in the following day to pull her from the shelter. By this time Breezy's leg had swollen 3x it's original size. She was rushed to the vet where they tried to treat the infection but unfortunately it was too late. Surgery was the only option; although there was a good chance she would not make it.
Luck was on Breezy's side as she pulled through the surgery and onto recovery. She then was transported up to Boston, MA to start the search of her FURever home.
Adopted in Mid-December, it was love at first sight with Breezy & her new mother. Not even 2 months later, Breezy & her mother are faced with a costly 2nd surgery. Usually, the standard procedure of an amputation like this includes the removal of the entire leg & shoulder; especially for a growing puppy like Breezy. This second surgery will be to remove the rest of her leg & shoulder to allow Breezy to live a full and healthy life.
