Save Abbie Hoffman's Eyesight

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Abbie Hoffman. I am the stereotypical hard luck story, with an (up til now) great ending.

I was found with 3 of my friends in North Carolina locked in an abandoned house in February. One of my buddies was already frozen dead to the floor when we were found. We were taken to a high kill shelter, where some awesome people from Mayberry 4 Paws tried super hard to save the 3 of us that made it through. One of my sisters was adopted right away, another found a foster who became her forever mom. They were both healthy, except for being super cold and hungry.
I had some health problems... lyme disease, secondary glaucoma in one eye, and heartworms. My new mom watched our story all the way from Chicago, and my happy wagging little tail tugged her heart strings. Despite having been in a car accident THAT DAY with a lady that ran from the scene & police, my mom kept thinking about the little dude in NC who needed love. My mom has a lot of health problems herself, including the big "C", but she came and got me anyway... her and her friend drove 24 hours round trip  in March, and scooped me up to come live with her, my new girlfriend Sydney, and our 'dad' (moms roomie).

Up til this weekend, everything has been awesome. I get to eat the best dog food (DUCK! YUMMMMM!) and sleep with mom every night, unless she is out of town, then i sleep with Syd & dad on the fluffy bed.  I like snuggles. A LOT.

Saturday morning I woke mom up super early and wanted to go outside to 'pick a spot'. I was having a hard time seeing. it was duskandwe were tired, so mom didnt worry too much and we came in and snuggled back up. We woke up later and my eye was gunky, I was squinting it closed, and I couldnt see anymore out of my 'good side' (I was already blind on my right from the glaucoma). This was pretty scary and abrupt... mom got me to the vet monday, and today I went to the doggie opthamologist.

The good news is, my optic nerve is still pink and alive (Yay!), the bad news is, I need $3200 in surgery & treatment to try to save my eyesight so I can hve a normal life of running with mom in the park and wrestling with Sydney. The double bad news isit has to be done NOW. The longer it waits, the more permanent the damage risk.

So, mom just took her property tax money, her fix the roof money (which is half done & was supposed to be finished next weekend), her money for seeing her oncologist (she has cancer) and I am at the specialist for the first of 3 appointments & surgeries. The sucky part is, she still hasnt paid all of the bill (no payment plans allowed).  Mom was sick for 3 months with a  lung infection December to March and unable to work much, so this emergency expense comes at a bad time.  We were just starting to get back on track & catch up.

We're all hoping (me, mom & sydney) that you'll find it in your heart to help me get my surgery & treatments this weekend, when I really need them. Moms birthday is this week, and she says she doesnt want gifts, she just wants her Abbie healthy. I want my mom to be able to see her doctor like she is supposed to, so she can be my mom for a long time too.

If we dont get my surgery funded here, she says she'll worry about herself later. She's like that, she loves us and puts us ahead of herself all the time.  But if you help pay for my surgery, she'll still be able to see her doctor like she is supposed to..  so you'll be saving my eyes, and helping her survive to protect her pack another day too (paws crossed).

Every little donation helps, really, and mom says she'll be glad to offer autographed photos, memorabilia, and prints of her paintings or photography for donors who want them & make bigger donations.

Please help if you can...
