Help San Eli News

What I am about to write is hard. It’s not easy to admit defeat and ask for help. Yet, that’s what I need to do. I am defeated and need help.

Newsrooms across the country have had to lay off office staff, reporters, writers and photographers. So far, at San Eli News, I’ve not had to do any of that. But we feel the pinch.

Our staff get paid for the articles and photos we run. Those payments come out of a reserve that will soon be depleted. Our funding is about to dry up.

When I started San Eli News, it was the fulfilment of a dream. I’ve always wanted to cover the community and people I love. No matter what happens in the coming months, I will continue to bring you news, stories, photos and more.

When I started San Eli News, I decided we would have a website that is tucked behind a paywall, nor would the website require any sort of paid subscription. Our revenue was to come from the print edition of the magazine (subscription fees as well as advertising) and the weekly print issue (advertising) we were launching.

The first issue of the magazine is delayed. The printer I selected has temporally closed because of COVID-19. We prepaid for the printing, and as I plan to have them print for us in the future, I am not going to push for a refund. They have families to support as well.

While we are still looking for a new printer for the magazine to get us through this patch, I did have to refund all monies earned on advertising sales. If their shop or business is closed, what’s the point of the advertising. Again, they have families to support.

COVID-19 has also caused us to delay the community newspaper edition as well. For how long, we just don’t know.

Here is where I need your help.

For those who write for me: our writers David, Amie, Ryan and Kyle and our photographer Tim, they still get paid for the work they do. Chantilly and I are not taking a check at all. Yet, as I said, the money is going to run out very soon.

We are all having a hard time. It’s not easy for any of us. None of us can predict when things will get back to normal. Still, we need your help.

Can you contribute to help keep San Eli News afloat? Anything will help.

We thank you for being part of what we do.
