Sam's Heart Surgery

Yesterday a dear friend of mine, who I consider family, found out she will have to have Heart Surgery for her rare Heart condition. Samantha is a 26-year-old single mother of two.
Four months ago, Sam started having chest pains and went to the E.R. There they told her she had a mass on her lung, but after further testing it was discovered she had a rare heart condition in which she has a sack of cysts growing around her heart. Per the Doctor’s advice, she went immediately to a hospital 2 ½ hours out of town where they were said to have better technology. When she arrived, they were waiting for her, so they could admit her into the hospital. Sam ended up staying in the hospital for 8 days, away from her kids and work.
During her 8 days stay, the doctors weren’t sure how to treat her heart condition, so they had to run test after test. None of the doctors had ever seen this before, they said she is 1 in 100,000 people. They weren’t even sure if they would be able to do surgery to correct it. The hospital was working with 2 other hospitals trying to figure out what her options were. On the 6th day they transferred her to a sister hospital where they had a team of Cardio-Thoracic doctors working on a plan. They kept her there for 2 days before releasing her and telling her that they would need to do more testing and planning to know how they would do the surgery, If they would even be able to do it!
As of Yesterday, she finally got the answers she's been waiting for. She will have her heart surgery in the middle of December. The doctors expect her to be out of work for 8-12 weeks. With her being a single mom with two kids, the money we are raising for her would be to cover the expenses she has already accrued from missing so much work, having to drive 150 miles for numerous doctor visits and for the new expenses she will accrue for pre-and post op visits. Some doctor appointments have & will require hotel stays. This is also to help with care for her children and to help pay bills while she’s out on Disability. Disability only pays part of her pay and she counts on all her pay to be able to financially meet her needs.
