BACK SURGERY FOR BRIAN THE DOG

Hi. My name is Brian. I am literally in surgery as I am writing this story. We wanted to get a jump on our cause as soon as possible so here goes...
My human dad found me about a year and a half ago dirty, wet, and skinny on a 4 lane highway. Cars were swerving and slamming on their brakes to avoid me but nobody stopped until my new dad did.
He took me home, washed me, fed me, put up posters, put ads online and in the newspaper but nobody wanted me, so he kept me. I now have 4 dog brothers and sisters, (all of which are also rescue pups), a human dad and mom, and recently, a human baby brother. (That's me in my hippie days in the Christmas photo, all the way on the right.)
Last year, I had a back problem which the vet treated with steroids and it worked for a while. Then I woke up this morning, June 6, and could barely move my back legs. Luckily, my human dad loved me enough to call the vet right away and bring me in. The doctor determined my back problem had returned and was even worse and that medications would not help this time. I had to go to a neurologist in an emergency situation.
The neurologist recommended immediate surgery and my human dad had to decide if I was worth fixing. Of course, it was not a hard decision for him and my mom emotionally but financially they could not afford it and had to use credit cards to pay for my care. Between both visits, exams, CT scan, blood work, anesthesia, and everything else the surgery entailed, my family is looking at around $7,000 in bills for a dog that nobody even wanted. Oh, did I mention my human dad has been unemployed for a year? He was laid off and he stays home taking care of my human brother while my human mom works 40 miles away.
I still have a long road ahead in my recovery but I am very grateful I was found by my family some time ago and they love me enough to go into debt to make sure I am okay.
