Thank you for taking the time to read about our funding needs. I am Kathy Flynn, the Director and Teacher at St. Mark’s Montessori School (SMMS).
This year is a landmark year for SMMS. It is our 50th year of educating children in the Northern Virginia area! So much has been accomplished since its beginning with just 2 classrooms, no playground, no Before-and-After Care, and no summer program.
On this momentous occasion, SMMS is launching a campaign to raise money for a new playground, and we invite you to be a part of it! With your help, we are hoping to raise $40,000 to build a natural playground. The existing playground is in dire need of refurbishing. Instead of replacing the old traditional playground equipment with new, we would like to build a natural playground. A natural playground not only is sustainable, it encourages children’s gross motor skills and invites creativity as well. A natural playground consists mostly of elements from nature. The money raised will be used to remove the existing equipment and design and construct a new natural playground with picnic tables, a balance beam, a new peace pole, a flower garden, a labyrinth, a new fence and much more.
We hope to raise enough money to start the construction by the end of this school year so that children can have a natural playground starting 2018-2019 school year. Being a small non-profit school, our funding is extremely limited. We need your help. We welcome any assistance that you may be able to give us.
