Devi Ma Shrine - Eugene Oregon

Tax deductible
This is an appeal to raise funds for Sri Mukambika Mahadeva Hindu Shrine (SMMHS) located in Eugene. Mukambika Devi is an embodiment of Durga, Laxmi and Sarswati. She is a powerful Deity known to grant wishes of her devotees. As described below, we are in a critical juncture where we need new space to locate our shrine.

ABOUT THE SHRINE
Sri Mukambika Devi arrived in Eugene during Navaratri on October 15, 2007.  SMMHS was established on May 16, 2010 in Eugene at the current location. The presiding deities are Mukambika Devi (Devi Ma) and her consort, Mahadeva with the ever-present Nandi, and the remover of obstacles, Vidya Ganapati.

Devi Ma has tried to find her abode in California, Florida, and for the last decade, in Oregon. It would be our good fortune to provide her with a permanent home in Oregon.

SOCIAL SIGNIFICANCE OF A COMMUNITY SHRINE

A shrine or temple in a community is a sacred place for people to assemble, celebrate and keep our culture alive. It is also a place where the grieving can seek comfort and support.

Since May 2010, the shrine has been a wonderful place for daily worship and celebrations of various Hindu festivals for people living in Eugene, Springfield, Corvallis, Portland and other nearby communities. We have joyously celebrated many Homas and Abhishekas over the years.

Due to lack of funds we have not had a paid pujari to do the daily pujas. This has been a blessing in disguise because the devotees volunteer to do the daily pujas--even in the icy winter conditions--and this has created a very close bond with the deities. Devi Ma has blessed many local devotees by fulfilling their wishes.

CURRENT STATUS

For the last seven years, a local family has generously provided space in their backyard for the shrine (which is housed in a yurt). However, they plan to move away from the area so we need to find a suitable, permanent home to meet the needs of a growing community of devotees in the area.

OUR VISION FOR THE SHRINE

* A place for puja--daily worship

* A place to celebrate Hindu festivals in the community.

* A place of learning:  Indian culture, Hindu scriptures, yoga, meditation, chanting, and spirituality.

PURPOSE OF THE FUNDRAISER

The sole purpose of this fundraiser is to provide Devi Ma (SMMHS) a permanent home, where the devotees can seek her blessings and the community can bond and support each other in the good times and in trying times.

OPTIONS

*Buying an existing church and remodel.

*Buying an older home and remodel.

*Buying a lot to build a suitable structure.

CAPITAL INVESTMENT

Our goal is to have a modest but permanent home for the shrine. To pursue any of the above options the estimated capital investment needed is between $350,000 to $400,000.

So far, we have raised $45,000 and a devotee has pledged an additional $50,000.

HUMBLE APPEAL

We seek all devotees to help raise the remaining amount of $305,000 to have a home for Devi Ma.

Providing the deities, a permanent home is a legacy we can pass on to our progeny. Living in today’s day and age, life is fast, complicated and passes by too quickly.

A Shrine is a place to reflect, meditate and seek inner peace and bliss.

We invite you to open your hearts for the Devi Ma Shrine and donate generously for this noble cause. As a 501- (c)(3) tax-exempt entity, donations to SMMHS are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by IRS.

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR GENEROSITY.

MAY DEVI MA SMILE UPON YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES.
