NYU film intern for h.s. student

Donation protected
I am raising funds for my son, Russell Ryan, to participate in the Tisch NYU summer internship for filmmaking in July 2018.  We live in Palm Springs, CA and through his counselor at school, Russell was encouraged to apply.  The internship is only available for  for junior students and he was talented enough to get in. The competition was strong from all over the country and the applicantion was very competitive; but he got one of the 20 spots.  I'm very proud of him!

Russell has had a strong passion for film for many years. Once he entered high school, the opportunities really opened up for him to follow his dream of becoming a writer, director and producer of his own film ideas.

Initially through a filmmaking class, he then joined DigiCom Learning. DigiCom is a community group via the school district, that uses a digital format for students to express their ideas. He was invited to join a screenwriting workshop 4 times since freshman year. His latest film, Double or Nothing, was made and  considered for the DigiCom X film festival. This was the first time Russell made a professional film with a budget, actors and a schedule.

Now that he is a junior, his movie themes have advanced and he is part of DigiCom X. His previous film, Confessions and Consequences, opened the DigiCom X festival in 2017 and he won award for: Best Original Screenplay. This recongination has encouraged him to also participate in other community events such as the annual Palm Springs International Film Festival every January and several symposium from University of California encouraging students to pursue careers in the Arts.  His most recent event on March 8, 2018  was part of a panel in the Narrative Filmmaking Symposium when he fielded questions from DigiCom advisors to the aspiring student filmmakers in the audience.

His affiliation with DigiCom and University of California has led him to meet Zack Soloman, head of the Palm Springs Film Festival Programming Department. Recongnizing Russell's talent, Mr. Soloman individually chose him to intern with him in September 2018 for the upcoming festival in January 2019.

Russell being accepted and participating in the NYU Filmmakers workshop this summer will be a stong stepping stone in his filmmaking career.  We appreciate any contributions that will help to meet the financial goal outlined below.
