Roger Newell Scholarship Fund
Donation protected
Roger Newell served as the Board Chair of DC Jobs with Justice for over 10 years. During his tenure he helped on numerous campaigns to protect and advance workers' rights, and inspired many future organizers by facilitating numerous free trainings on the Basics of Organizing. Roger Newell started organizing as a teenager in Washington, DC and has been involved with local community issues since then.
This scholarship has been created so that local DC high school and college students can be afforded the opportunity to be an organizer like Roger Newell! The young recipients would work at DC Jobs with Justice for the summer, fall, or spring developing their leadership and organizing skills. Scholarship funds go towards helping DC Jobs with Justice get computers, desks, and communications technology or incoming interns, as well as helping with transportation, food, and living expense stipends. Campaigns and projects that the scholarship money will help further include but are not limited too: winning living wages in the District; saving affordable DC public transportation; helping educate day laborers on their rights; winning paid sick days and other public health initiatives; winning wage theft protections for all workers, etc.
The Moriah Fund has graciously promised to match DC Jobs with Justice with $10,000 if we can raise $10,000 from our community! Please donate today! Help us develop and show our young people how to make real differences in their communities! Help us honor the legacy of Roger Newell!
