Let's Ring 'Em Up! - Help the CIF champs get rings

Historically, Estancia High School, a Title 1 school in a high-poverty area, has been undervalued and overlooked. Historically, families who live in Estancia’s zone transfer their students to private schools, charter schools, or out of the district, making Estancia the second-smallest public high school in Orange County. Historically, Estancia’s sports programs have suffered because of the lack of community engagement. In 2021, the entire Estancia Baseball program, combining both JV and Varsity, consisted of 21 players and the 2021 varsity team won just 7 games all season. Before 2022, Estancia Eagles Baseball had never advanced past the quarterfinal round of the CIF playoffs. But history is a funny thing – it can change in an instant.

 

New coaching leadership took over the 2022 Estancia Eagles Baseball program and entirely revamped the culture. The players and their families completely bought in. Hundreds of hours were put in to rejuvenate “The Nest” into a first-class facility. The program gained 20% more players. Estancia Baseball placed first in CIF Academic awards in their league and in their district and placed in the top 10 in CIF Southern Section. On the field, the Eagles went on a tear. Both the JV and Varsity squads started off the season 10-0. The varsity squad was the only Orange Coast League team to beat the eventual league champions all season. In fact, the Eagles swept the series.

 

The Eagles made it to the CIF Playoffs and marched through them with fervor. They gave up only 2 runs in rounds 1, 2, and the quarterfinals and then went to their first semifinal game in program history, shutting out their opponent to move on to Estancia Baseball’s first CIF Championship game ever. Then they did what no one thought they could. Overshadowed by an incredible narrative from their opponent and with history stacked against them, the Eagles brought home the first CIF Baseball Championship in the

school’s history, and the first CIF Championship in any sport since 2004 - before most of the players on the team were even born.

 

Their accomplishment is the stuff legends are made of, and we want to celebrate these undervalued and overlooked kids in a legendary way. Unfortunately, this unexpected post-season run has been costly to a program funded by a small but dedicated Booster group and some generous local partners.
