Richard Nelson Memorial Fund

Donation protected
On Thanksgiving eve, our family lost our treasured Richard Nelson. He was only 23-year-old. Shortly after his 21st birthday he was diagnosed with leukemia. They found a tumor in his chest, while removing it they accidentally paralyzed one of his vocal cords. This caused Richard’s voice to change to a husky whisper. He didn’t complain, he accepted it. On September 17, 2015, he had his bone marrow transplant. The donor was a perfect match, the leukemia was gone, and everyone was optimistic.

Then his health started to decline and he was given more bad news. He had Graft vs. Host, his body was rejecting the bone marrow transplant, again Richard accepted it. The next two years would consist of dr. visits, pills, hospital stays, procedures, and too many side effects to state. During these difficult times, he never asked why this was happening to him. He never wallowed in the pain he was suffering, he just grinned and bared it. We will never be able to find the words to express how special Richard was and will always be. He was a fighter and never gave up. Richard would always talk about the future, no matter how bad it got. He planned on going back to college, taking trips, riding more roller coasters, driving a car again, playing music, and so much more.

His mother Roseanna Nelson lost her job shortly after her son was diagnosed. This was a tragedy as the upcoming years would be full of hospital and medical costs. She immediately said it was a sign and focused all her energy on her son. She made sure he had everything he needed, she was his rock. This never changed over the last two years.

During this difficulty time of transition, please consider supporting Richard’s memorial fund. The proceeds will go directly to Richard’s mother to assist with paying for additional funeral costs and his headstone.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to Richard's Memorial Fund.
