On the 26th of August, I was scheduled to take flight from Texas to Italy where I would study for three months before completing my degree in civil engineering. Before that could happen, my mother was in a terrible motorcycle accident the night before. Her injuries were so severe, she had to be airlifted to a more sophisticated hospital where she acquired top trauma care.
Doctors say she came in unconscious with fractured ribs, a punctured lung, a lasheration on her spleen, broken collar bone, fractured scapula, and an incomplete fracture in her spine (right below her neck).
As her eldest daughter, I have stayed by her side each day, making all the surgical decisions necessary for her recovery when she was unable to speak for herself. After her spinal cord surgery, she remained intubated in the ICU. She eventually regained consciousness to reveal to us she had no sensation in her legs or her hands.

My mom served as an EMT/paramedic for over 25 years. This bad ass woman even worked in the oil fields for 5 years. She was also a volunteer firefighter when she had the extra time. Moreover, this genuine soul took care of people her entire life. Now it's time for her to be watched over.
My mom will not be able to work for some extended period of time. Her recovery could last up to a year or longer. Considering her longevity at the hospital and pending long term care rehab, my goal is to raise $50,000.

To all of the loving support received from family members, friends, co-workers, colleges, hospital staff and more, I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. You are all in my thoughts as I hope my mother is in yours. ❤️
