Four days before Christmas 2017 Laura Stafford Hudlow learned she needs a full liver transplant as soon as possible and will possibly a kidney transplant as well.
Since early Fall 2017 she has been to the emergency room six times. One of them resulting in emergency surgery to repair a ruptured artery and ended with a four day stay in ICU.
As if the emergency room visits weren’t enough Laura must have outpatient procedures every Monday to drain fluid from her abdomen caused by her condition.
Laura has been gratefully employed by Southwest Airlines for the past 22 years but has been unable to work since all of this began. It is unknown when she will be able to return to work to help contribute to the household income and pay off mounting medical bills.
Unforeseeable complications with her diabetes has caused her blood sugar to crash sometimes below 50, which means Laura cannot drive or be left alone.
She does however have an incredible support system of family and friends helping to make sure someone is always there.
Her husband dutifully takes her to all doctor and ER visits, as well as hospital stays. Her mother drives an hour each way to take her to appointments and recently her son resigned from his promising job in NYC and moved back to Oklahoma to help care for her.
The financial stress and burden of all this continues to grow. They are anticipating bills in excess of $150,000 after insurance and that isn’t even counting the medication she will need to take for the rest of her life after the transplant.
We are asking for your help with offsetting these costs by donating any amount you can. Our initial goal to get the process started is $2000, but she will need much more. Laura is a wonderful lady with a beautiful family. Help us help them get through this. One dollar at a time.
