Biography of Racing Ron

Ronnie (Racing Ron) was born December 20, 2004. Rosemary, and Ronald, the proud parents of an overly active baby boy.

Ronnie fell in love with auto racing at his first event, the NHRA Nationals at Englishtown New Jersey 2008, at the age of four. When he was six years old, Santa Claus brought him a Razor go kart for Christmas. It was love at first drive. I would take him to the local schoolyard on weekends. His first race course was a slalom comprised of his stuffed animals. He didn’t want to run over his prized possessions so he asked me if I could buy some traffic cones. I did. Setting up different race tracks for him to race through with 28 cones taught him vital driving skills.

August 2012 Ronnie started driving electric indoor go karts at Speed Raceway in Horsham Pennsylvania. It’s an indoor electric go kart track with adult, and junior racing go karts. Ronnie had over 300 first-place finishes, was ranked their number one Junior driver, and was ranked number two overall in their RPM (racing performance measurement) adults included. It was time to move on to bigger and better things.

May 2013 I purchased a Top Kart, Cadet for him. It’s a 9 HP, 80 c.c two-stroke gasoline engine that can spin over 12,500 RPM. With the gear ratio presently on his go kart, it will go 55 mph. He had about 10 hours practice time getting acclimated to his new set of wheels.

October 27, 2013 he raced his first Philly SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) SOLO autocross event in the FJB class, he took first-place.

2014 Philadelphia SCCA Solo 10 event summer series has yielded him nine first-place, and one second place finish. He is the 2014 SCCA season FJB class champion. The Philly SCCA has 752 members, over 420 drivers in 46 classes, the 3 junior classes are FJA 13 to 16 y/o, FJB 8 to12 y/o, and FJC 5 to 7 y/o. Ronnie had the highest points total of the 46 classes.

August 26, 2014 Blake Delster (Sales Director, Top Kart USA) offered Ronnie the opportunity to race with Team Top Kart in the WKA (World Karting Association) Manufacturer’s Cup Series in 2015. This series would include venues at the Daytona Motor Speedway in Daytona Beach Florida, Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw South Carolina, Michiana Raceway Park in South Bend Indiana, and Newcastle Motorsports Park in New Castle Indiana. That was a great offer from Team Top Kart, he could’ve been featured on the Tru TV show called “Kart Life” giving him national exposure.

The expense of racing in that WKA series would’ve been in excess of $1,000.00 per event, including travel, and lodging expenses. Plus he'd need three motors (they do up to three engine teardowns for inspection at every event), and new tires for every event. That wasn’t in our budget for the 2015 season.

2015 Philadelphia SCCA Solo, 9 event series. He came in first place at all 9 events, getting the first season sweep of any class in over 11 years. The Philly region ran 42 classes, with 507 racers in 2015.

2016 he raced the Philadelphia SCCA Solo, SCCA Pro Solo, and SCCA National events in FJB class 46 pounds over weight. The SCCA has over 60,000 national members. Racing at the national level, we needed too upgrade the chasses (Sodi Celesta), and the motor is a Briggs & Stratton World Formula motor. He finished the season with 9 in first, 2 second place with the Philadelphia region SCCA, 2 first place finishes with the Northeastern PA SCCA, 1 first place at the Washington DC Pro Solo, and third place in Lincoln, Nebraska at the SCCA Solo National finals, running the fastest time in his class in the rain. The Philly region had 47 classes, with 451 drivers in 2016. The National event in Lincoln had 1,306 drivers racing in 71 classes.

2017 He’ll be racing the FJA class. He should be about 5 pounds over the minimum class weight. He had 6 runs in the FJA mode in 2016, and ran over 12% faster. He should have a stellar season in 2017.

His racing record stands at, 32 in first, 4 in second, and 1 third place finish.

He’s the 2014, 2015, 2016 Philadelphia SCCA Solo, Formula Junior B class champion. Taking 3rd at the SCCA National finals being 46 pounds over weight for his class was a great performance.

On weekends when he’s not racing, we enter his go kart and local car shows in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. The response from spectators at the car shows is overwhelming. He talks with people all day promoting his sport, and answering questions about his karting. The promoters and spectators love seeing that little racing machine. It’s a lot different than looking at the same old 57 Chevy, 69 Camaro, 23 T bucket, or the Dukes of Hazard car. He’s received 23 awards from the shows he’s attended. Thousands of people have seen him & his kart at the shows.

2018 he's hoping to race with the SCCA & WKA in sprint karts. Getting him more national exposure may help get him a major sponsor.

Knowing the enthusiasm he has about his racing, his desire too promote his sport, and sponsors, prompted me to write this. I’m seeking additional sponsorships in support of his racing,
