Help to Grow our Sea Turtle Conservation Project

Hello! We are an independent Sea Turtle & Environmental Conservation Project in our first year. In 2020, despite facing many challenges due to the project being in its beginning stages, as well as the pandemic, we managed to liberate 7,600 baby turtles. The Turtle Season begins in June (in 4 months), and we need many supplies to function properly. In order to continue growing our project we are in need of financial help. Your donations will go towards:
- Equipment for the Sea Turtle nesting season (backpacks, rubber gloves, notebooks, pencils, headlamps, garbage bags, ponchos, paint for signs, machetes, pales for the transfer of baby turtles, material for creation of the nursery, etc.)
- Improving the Campsite for volunteers (water filter, bedding, side tables, shelving, curtains, etc.)
- Maintenance of the House (metal to replace the 20 year-old roof, lightbulbs, varnish, paint, etc.)
Who are we / Where are we?
We are a young couple, passionate about protecting the Animals and the Environment. Esteban is a Tico who has lived his whole life in the jungle next to the Ocean, always close to Nature and without the frills of civilization. Brittni is a passionate Educator from Canada, whose mission is to connect children to Nature. She has lived in Costa Rica for the last two years dedicating her life towards working with both local and international children along the Osa Peninsula.
RASCAREY is a new independent Sea Turtle Conservation Project in the most remote region of Costa Rica. While it is home to some of the most untouched wilderness in the world, the geographical isolation comes with many challenges. Access to resources is difficult - as this region is not commercially developed whatsoever. The nearest little town is a 45 minute drive away crossing two rivers, and access to necessary materials requires a longer trip to the nearest developed town which is 2.5 hours away. Little by little we are improving the site to better accommodate Volunteers, but it still requires lots of improvement.
What do we do?
Nightly Patrols (searching for nesting turtles), Taking care of the hatchery, Liberating Turtles, Weekly Beach Cleanups, Recycling / Upcycling projects, Working with natural materials, Planting and cultivation of local plants, Connecting people to the elements.
Our mission is to protect the vulnerable lifeforms through Sea Turtle Conservation and Sustainability Immersion Volunteer Experiences. Our mission is to protect life.
It is no surprise by now, that many animals and plants of the sea and land are rapidly diminishing, others have been wiped out completely - due to manmade destruction and climate change. We seek to connect the local community and international demographics to protect the biodiversity that is here in this magical place on Earth.

Why do we need your help?
Firstly, we want to emphasize that the turtles need your help.
Turtles are becoming extinct due to manmade destruction: poaching (robbing of and eating of the eggs), climate change (the Ocean levels are rising, and there fewer dry beaches for the turtles to lay eggs), predators and domesticated animals eating the eggs, and illegal vehicular activity that crushes the eggs, pollution and boat activity in the ocean, and more.
The main purpose of our work is to be able to conduct nightly patrols to collect and protect the eggs that the turtles lay in the nighttime. We transfer the eggs to a safe and clean nursing site (the hatchery) where there chances of survival is high.

Our Story
In early 2020 we had a small grant from a national Non-Profit organization that helped us to begin remodeling a house on our farm that we turned into a base camp for Volunteers to live. However, due to the year being full of unpredictability and changes with the pandemic, we were put in a position whereby we had to use our personal savings to continue onwards with the Sea Turtle Conservation.
Rincon de San Josecito is absolutely brimming with wildlife, but for humans to live here comfortably it requires a lot of effort (maintaining the infrastructures with the humidity from the ocean and the buildup from the jungle lifeforms - as well as the necessary trips to gather supplies/goods). We are very eager to continue growing our project with Sea turtle and Environmental Conservation in the area, which is home to 2.5% of the whole planets' biodiversity.

¡Hola! Somos un proyecto independiente de conservación ambiental y tortuga marina en nuestro primer año. En 2020, a pesar de enfrentar muchos desafíos debido a que el proyecto estaba en sus etapas iniciales, así como la pandemia, logramos liberar 7.600 tortugas bebé. La temporada de tortugas comienza en junio (en 4 meses), y necesitamos muchos suministros para funcionar correctamente. Para seguir creciendo nuestro proyecto, necesitamos ayuda financiera. Sus donaciones se destinarán a:
- Equipo para la temporada de anidación de tortugas marinas (mochilas, guantes de goma, cuadernos, lápices, faros, bolsas de basura, ponchos, pintura para señales, machetes, pálidas para el traslado de tortugas bebé, material para la creación de la guardería, etc.)
- Mejorar el camping para voluntarios (filtro de agua, ropa de cama, mesas laterales, estanterías, cortinas, etc.)
- Mantenimiento de la casa (metal para reemplazar el techo de 20 años de antigüedad, bombillas, barniz, pintura, etc.)
¿Quiénes somos / Dónde estamos?
Somos una pareja joven, apasionada por proteger a los animales y al medio ambiente. Esteban es un Tico que ha vivido toda su vida en la selva junto al Océano, siempre cerca de la Naturaleza y sin los lujos de la civilización. Brittni es una apasionada educadora de Canadá, cuya misión es conectar a los niños con la Naturaleza. Ha vivido en Costa Rica durante los últimos dos años dedicando su vida a trabajar con niños locales e internacionales a lo largo de la Península de Osa.
RASCAREY es un nuevo proyecto independiente de conservación de tortugas marinas en la región más remota de Costa Rica. Si bien es el hogar de algunos de los desiertos más intactos del mundo, el aislamiento geográfico viene con muchos desafíos. El acceso a los recursos es difícil, ya que esta región no está desarrollada comercialmente en absoluto. La pequeña ciudad más cercana está a 45 minutos en coche cruzando dos ríos, y el acceso a los materiales necesarios requiere un viaje más largo a; pueblo desarrollada más cercana, que está a 2,5 horas de distancia. Poco a poco estamos mejorando el sitio para acomodar mejor a los voluntarios, pero todavía requiere mucho trabajo.
¿Qué hacemos?
Patrullas nocturnas (en busca de tortugas anidadoras), Cuidado del vivero , Tortugas Liberaciones, Limpieza de playas, Proyectos de Reciclaje / Upcycling, Trabajar con materiales naturales, Plantación y cultivo de plantas locales, y mucho más!
Nuestra misión es proteger las formas de vida vulnerables a través de experiencias voluntarias de conservación de tortugas marinas y inmersión en sostenibilidad. Nuestra misión es proteger la vida.
No es de extrañar a estas alturas, que muchos animales y plantas del mar y la tierra están disminuyendo rápidamente, otros han sido eliminados por completo - debido a la destrucción artificial y el cambio climático. Buscamos conectar a la comunidad local y a la demografía internacional para proteger la biodiversidad que hay aquí en este lugar mágico de la Tierra.

¿Por qué necesitamos tu ayuda?
En primer lugar, queremos enfatizar que las tortugas necesitan su ayuda.
Las tortugas se están extinguiendo debido a la destrucción artificial: la caza furtiva (robar y comer de los huevos), el cambio climático (los niveles del océano están aumentando, y hay menos playas secas para que las tortugas den huevos), depredadores y animales domesticados comiendo los huevos, y actividad vehicular ilegal que aplasta los huevos, la contaminación y la actividad de los barcos en el océano, y más.
El propósito principal de nuestro trabajo es poder llevar a cabo patrullas nocturnas para recoger y proteger los huevos que las tortugas ponen en la noche. Transferimos los huevos a un sitio de enfermería seguro y limpio (el criadero (donde hay posibilidades de supervivencia es alta.

Nuestra Historia
A principios de 2020 tuvimos una pequeña subvención de una organización nacional sin fines de lucro que nos ayudó a comenzar a remodelar una casa en nuestra granja que convertimos en un campamento base para voluntarios para vivir. Sin embargo, debido a que el año está lleno de imprevisibilidad y cambios con la pandemia, nos pusieron en una posición por la cual tuvimos que utilizar nuestros ahorros personales para continuar adelante con la Conservación de tortugas marinas.
Rincón de San Josecito está absolutamente lleno de vida silvestre, pero para que los seres humanos vivan aquí cómodamente requiere mucho esfuerzo (mantener las infraestructuras con la humedad del océano y la acumulación de las formas de vida de la selva - así como los viajes necesarios para reunir suministros / bienes). Estamos muy ansiosos por seguir creciendo nuestro proyecto con las tortugas marinas y la conservación ambiental en la zona, que es el hogar del 2,5% de la biodiversidad de todos los planetas.
